Hi I'm Gary R,

I'm a Security Analyst, and a Windows Update Trainee, and I'd like to help you with your problems.

As a trainee there may be times when my instructions must first be checked by a qualified update expert, before I post them. This will by necessity introduce some delay when/if that occurs, so please be patient.

  • Open Windows Explorer and browse to the ... C:\Windows\Logs\CBS ... folder.
  • Right click on it, and select ... Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder
  • A message will appear stating, "Windows cannot create the Compressed (zipped) Folder here. Do you want it to be placed on the desktop instead?"
    • Answer Y to create a folder CBS.zip on your Desktop.
  • Please attach it to your next post.
    • If the file is too large, please upload it to a file sharing service and provide the link to it in your next reply.
    • Examples of services to upload to are WeTransfer and TransferKit and SendFileOnline
Next ...

  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Compress to Zip file. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a file sharing service.
  • Examples of services to upload to are WeTransfer and TransferKit and SendFileOnline

Please post me the link to the file

Hi Gary, thanks for taking the time to help. Here is what you requested. Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks.

Going to have to set up a VM and update it, to source the necessary files and/or registry settings I need. May take a while, but I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Bad news.

Despite numerous attempts, I'm afraid I've been unable to setup a functional W11 VM, so I'm going to have to see if I can get one of my colleagues to help you.

Problem appears to be with the latest version of VirtualBox (7.0), I had no problems installing W11 on earlier versions.

OS installs OK, and is functional to begin with, but locks up within just a few seconds of use and becomes unfunctioning.

I've posted asking if one of my colleagues can take over this topic, and I'll get back to you as soon as I have any news.

Have just got a W11 VM to work. Haven't updated it yet, and it's getting late here so I'll do that in the morning (my time GMT), but looks like I may be able to help you myself after all.

Talk to you again once I've got things as I need them to be, and can prepare a fix for you.
