Do you know what brand of hard drive is in your computer?

  1. On the bottom left-hand corner of your Windows 7 / Vista screen, click on Start (ie, the Windows icon).
  2. The Start menu will pop up. Right-click on Computer.
  3. Choose "Manage". See the first three steps here:

  4. On the left column, please click on Device Manager.
  5. Next to Disk drives, click on the + sign next to it to reveal your drive's model number (in this case, ST3250410AS). See the image below:

hi yes i have 2 hard drives installed,my main terrabyte one and a second smaller one also,

firstly is SAMSUNG HD103SJ SCSI disk device
second is WDC WD25 00AVVS-63L2B SCSI disk device

Windows is installed on the Samsung drive?

Please download and install Seagate Seatools for Windows to test your Samsung (now owned by Seagate) disk.
In Seatools, check the box next to your Samsung drive and choose Short Self Test from the Basic Tests menu.

For more information see here:
How to Use Seatools

Let me know the results of the test, it should only take a couple minutes to complete.

yes its installed on samsung drive,i installed what you said to,ran it but theres no hard drives being picked up by it?

also in device manager while looking for the hard drive names i noticed that 61883 device class is showing error code 10 (the device cannot start) ,probably unrelated but just giving you a little more info,my samsung hard drive is working fine tho so cannot understand why seatools isnt recognising any drives.

Hi im currently not home at the moment,as soon as i get home i will reply as you asked, within 3 hours GMT

OK, looks like your disks are healthy.

Has this machine ever shown a bluescreen message before?

no never a BSOD,its shut down unexpectedly in a thunderstorm once but apart from that its running smooth, apart from the windows update loop and one other annoying thing which is the grey bars with yellow star even tho im connected wirelessly, says connections are available even tho im connected,i always thought the 2 are related somehow,i havent been able to get windows updates to work since june 2014 :(
