Unable to update to Windows 10

In attempts to update to Windows 10, it does not seem to proceed forward past "Searching for updates". It has been attempting the search for hours. Is this normal or does it indicate something is wrong?

Did you try upgrading using the Media Creation Tool instead?

Hi Aura! Looks like you're my personal analyst! So this is the same computer we've been working on with the updates. And yes I have used the Media Creation Tool. I just ran it today and it's been going again for about three hours still trying to check for updates.

Do you have Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1?

Windows 7 SP1 Home Premium

Did you try using the Media Creation Tool to download the .iso, mount it and then launch the setup.exe in it?
