Good Afternoon,

I'm troubleshooting a machine:

Server 2008 R2 SP1

SFC /SCANNOW = Clean
Windows Update Readiness Tool = Fails to install

SFCFix Tool = No corruptions found.

CBS Folder zipped and attached.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Service WAS running.

Restarted service and attempted .net 4.8 install again.

Failed again. Same error.

Currently doing a pending monthly security roll-up as a sanity check.
Will respond with results.

Any further suggestion for .Net in the mean time is appreciated.

EDIT: Monthly Roll-up also FAILS. Issue appears to be broader than just .net. I apologize for not having a complete view of the issue.

Please do the following:

Step#1 - Capture Process Monitor Trace
1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
2. Try updating the system just like you have in the past.
3. Stop Process Monitor as soon as it fails. You can simply do this by clicking the magnifying glass on the toolbar as shown below.

4. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
5. Zip up and provide the link to the LogFile.PML file as well as your CBS.log Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or OneDrive or SendSpace.

I'm sorry for the delay.

After multiple attempts at the Windows roll-ups, they succeeded.

So now I'm only left with .Net updates/installs pending and they continue to fail.

Below is the ProcMon logs and CBS log that took place during that failed update.

Note:

It did not appear that the timestamp on the CBS.log file changed from beginning the install and it failing.

Using the .NET Collect Utility

  1. Download collect.exe and save to your desktop.
  2. Go ahead and run the tool
  3. The utility creates a compressed cabinet of all the needed logs to %TEMP%\vslogs.cab.
  4. Please zip/attach to this post or if too large, send using a service such as SendSpace.
