I have been trying unsuccessfully to install Windows 7 x64 SP1. I always get error code 80073701. Have tried sooo many fixes I can't even tell you which ones anymore. I have also done an in place re-install of window 7 but that did not fix the problem. Scannow detected problems but could not fix them.

I have had this problem for about a year now. It was not a big issue until I tried to install a new version of MYOB my company's accounting software. This would not install either. In hindsight, I realised that a newer version of Itunes also would not install.

I sincerely hope you can help me as I desperately need to access my companies accounting file. The work is piling up fast!

Thank you.

Hello AzMaz, welcome to Sysnative!

Can you boot into the recovery environment, and launch command prompt please: How to use the Windows 7 System Recovery Environment Command Prompt

When command prompt is launched, type in the following command and press enter:

DISM /image:C:\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions

Note: The drive letter may be D: or E:, if C: fails, try the others.

Then reboot your computer, booting into Windows normally, try updating and post your CBS log please :)

Hi Tom,

Unfortunately Service Pack 1 is still not updating. Boo Hoo. :-(

The cbs log was sent after I tried to update windows again. Do you have any ideas on what to do next?

Maybe I should just bite the bullet and install Windows 8 as a clean fresh formatted install.

Thanks.

Hello Again Tom,

As requested, I have downloaded and run the System Update Readiness Tool from the link you provided.

The CheckSUR.persist.log is attached.

Good Luck!

THANK YOU.

Windows Update Package Replacement

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Please download the attached file, Packs.zip and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Right-click on the file and select Extract All...
  3. Tick the box labelled Show extracted files when complete then click Extract
  4. A window will open showing two folders, Manifests and Packages
  5. Open the Manifests folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

  6. Open the Packages folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

  7. Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again.
  8. When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:

    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/16537616/Fixes/SURT/AzMaz/Packs.zip

Then try to update and let me know if it works. I suspect it won't at this stage, and if it doesn't, then do this please:

Export CBS folder

  1. Click the Start button
    StartButton_16x16.gif
    then click Computer.
  2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
  3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
  4. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
  5. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
  6. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  7. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.

Tom
