First post on this site.....had problems with an HP Pavilion running my personal copy of Windows 7 Home Edition. Built a new machine with AMD A8-7600, Gigabyte GA-F2A88XM-D3HP motherboard, 16GB DDR3-1600, SSD 250GB. Machine runs well and install of Windows 7 was clean. Was able to download many updates but all updating has come to a halt. Running WUTS I get the message "Windows Update Error 0x80070057 (2016-05-21-t_33_00A)" and "Cryptographic Service Components not registered". Have tried a variety of solutions including "sgc/scannow" MGA Diag Tool, changing DNS, and others with no success. I have run the diagnostic program suggested on this site and am including the CBS.zip for hopeful assistance.

Moderator - The thread issue is "Not Able to Install Windows Updates". Sorry for any confusion.

Windows Updates will not install for Windows 7 x64-bit

First posting on this site.....had problems with an HP Pavilion running my owned disk copy of Windows 7 Home Edition. Built a new machine with AMD A8-7600, Gigabyte GA-F2A88XM-D3HP motherboard, 16GB DDR3-1600, SSD 250GB. Disk install of Windows 7 Home Edition on SSD was clean and machine runs perfect. Was able to download some updates but all updating has come to a halt. I was able to manually download and then install KB947821 (Hotfix), KB3083710, and KB3102810.

Running WUTS I got the message "Windows Update Error 0x80070057 (2016-05-21-t_33_00A)" and "Cryptographic Service Components not registered", all other issues were fixed. Have now tried a variety of solutions including "sfc /scannow" which gave the message "No integrity violations" and the cbs.zip is attached. Ran Microsoft EasyFix50202.msi with restart.....Picked one downloaded update and it failed to install with message "failed code 800B0100. My ISP is Cox HS but I even changed the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 with no success.

I'm currently running Microsoft Security Essentials, Malwarebytes, and have GWX Control active.

Could certainly use some expert advice as I don't want to migrate to Windows 10 at this time.

Hello and Welcome!

Please try this:

Run Windows Repairs
  1. Download Windows Repair (All-in-One) Portable to your desktop.
  2. Once the file is downloaded, right-click on the file on your desktop and choose Extract All...
    Extract.JPG
  3. Keep the defaults and click the Extract button.
  4. A folder named tweaking.com_windows_repair_aio will be extracted to the desktop. Once the extraction is complete the folder will open.
  5. Inside this folder, there is a folder named Tweaking.com - Windows Repair. Open this folder as well.
    Capture.JPG
  6. Double-click on Repair_Windows.exe to open. Note: Please make sure all of your programs are closed and anything you were working on is saved as we will be rebooting.
  7. When the program opens, click the Reboot to Safe Mode button at the bottom of the screen. Answer Yes to allow.
  8. Once rebooted into Safe Mode, open the program again. When the program opens, click the Repairs tab and click the Open Repairs button.
  9. A backup of your registry will be made. After a few moments you will have many options from which you can choose.
  10. Please click the Unselect All button and then click to enable only the following ones:

    17 - Repair Windows Updates
  11. Ensure the Restart check box is selected and click the Start Repairs button in the lower right of the screen. This may take some time to run so be patient.
    StartRepairsWithReboot.JPG
  12. Once the fixes are complete you will be prompted to restart your machine. Answer Yes.

When your computer has restarted, check for Windows Updates again.

Note that this will take much longer than usual. Please be patient.

Thank you for your response. I've completed all the steps requested above with one small exception....step 12 states I would be prompted to restart. After waiting for several minutes, without a restart, I manually restarted the computer. What are the next steps you suggest I take?

Waiting for next steps, I proceeded to perform a Windows Update.

The check went smoothly and returned 5 Important Updates and 6 Optional Updates. The Important ones were: KB3042058, KB3071756, KB2726535, KB3068708, and KB3080149. Of the Optional, I only checked four (4) excluding Silverlight KB3126036 and Skype KB2876229. Optional selected were: KB2574819, KB2592687, KB2830477, and KB3080079. Download went smoothly and the install process finished. Updates Failed - Zero were installed and I received the error code 800B0100.

Ok, let's check if any missing or corrupt files are reported with the System Update Readiness Tool.

System Update Readiness Tool (SURT)

Download and run the System Update Readiness Tool for your version of Windows here: System Update Readiness Tool

NOTE: If you aren't sure if your Windows installation is 32-bit or 64-bit, check here: How to determine whether a computer is running a 32-bit version or 64-bit version of the Windows operating system

This tool will take some time to complete - when it has finished, attach C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log with your reply.

Windows Update Package Replacement

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Please download the attached file, Packs.zip and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Right-click on the file and select Extract All...
  3. Tick the box labelled Show extracted files when complete then click Extract
  4. A window will open showing two folders, Manifests and Packages
  5. Open the Manifests folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

  6. Open the Packages folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

  7. Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again.
  8. When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:

    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log

View attachment Packs.zip

Looking at the results of both SURT logs, it appears update KB3035132 (an installed update) may be corrupt. It also appear there is an issue with KB3068708. Am I reading the results of these logs correctly?

In addition to installing KB947821 (Hotfix aka SURT), the Windows Updater "just now" installed KB3035583 which is the Get Windows 10 app. Funny how some updates won't install but this one has no trouble.

That is correct, there are two updates that are missing some files.

It doesn't appear that SURT found the replacement files. Are you certain that the extracted replacement files were placed in the correct folders?

My mistake, I only copied the Manifests. Have redone the process with both Manifests and Packages and run SURT. Attached is the CheckSUR.log file.

Excellent :)

Let's run SFC to check for corrupt or incorrect files:

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please zip and attach this to your next post.

I've completed the task outlined above and have a text file that is 2.33GB in size. The zip file is 132MB. Does this seem correct? I don't seem to be able to attach this file.

OK.....don't know what happened the first time but I ran sfc /scannow a second time and the resultant zip file is attached.

Hopefully, we are on the right road.

Looks good.

Please check for Windows Updates and install any that are offered.

If an update fails to install, zip and attach CBS.log with your reply.

Before I forget, let me thank you for all the assistance you have provided.....greatly appreciated.

Updates now appear to be installing with one exception, KB3068708.....failed Code 8024200D. I ran scf /scannow but it produced a very large log file that even compressed won't load as an attachment. Any thoughts?

Yes, if the zip is larger than 8MB it will not be attached.

You can use a file sharing service such as OneDrive, DropBox, SendSpace, etc. and include a link with your reply :)
