Hi all,

we're running Windows Server 2019 and are unable to install updates.

Windows Modules Installer is running, sfc /scannow and DISM fail. I'm attaching the logs in case someone can help out.

Your ComponentScanner log and your CBS.log shows that your Component's Hive is corrupted and needs repairing

When you ran ComponentScanner you would have been prompted to perform a repair, but the log says that you did not opt to do so.

Double-click ComponentsScanner.exe and click Yes on the UAC (User Account Control) prompt which appears. ComponentsScanner is digitally signed by Sysnative Forums Software Ltd.
Follow the on-screen instructions.

When prompted to perform any repairs, press Y to agree.

Once complete, a report will be saved to your desktop .... ComponentsScanner.txt .... please post this new log.

Thank you Gary, I'll do so at the first chance I get after hours. Should a full backup of the server be performed, it's one of our more critical assests and I don't know what are the chances of some sort of problem. That is why I didn't choose the repairs.

Never a bad idea to make a backup before making any changes.

In this case what you've got is a fairly common (but fortunately not too frequent) corruption, that is usually fixed without problems by ComponentScanner.

Of course it may not be the only problem you have, but it's certainly the one we need to take care of first, as we won't be able to ascertain what any of the others are (if any) without repairing it.

I did the repair with ComponentScanner and Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth works just fine now, but sfc /scannow fails at 74%. However all the updates were installed without issue now. Thank you!

I'm yet again attaching the logs, if it's a quick fix, otherwise I'm quite satisfied.

The files that SFC was unable to fix were all related to .... Windows-Defender-Management-Powershell, version 10.0.17763.831 .... October 15, 2019—KB4520062 (OS Build 17763.832) - Microsoft Support .... and have undoubtedly been superceded.

As you're now able to update to the latest updates then I don't believe they're likely to be problematic.

If they do become so, then please get back to me, and we can address them, but otherwise if you're happy, then I'll mark this topic as solved.

You're welcome. Glad we were able to help you. :-)
