Hey all, The gold image for our Citrix environment has been having issues installing updates for awhile and we have so far been unable to fix it. The current problem update is KB4537821 which windows update fails to install and installing via dism gets us the error 80073712 Component Store Corruption.

sfc /scannow shows no issues as does sfcfix. Trying dism /online /restorehealth shows a sources error even when we give it a valid wim file with the proper index. Reinstalling the OS is not an option due to the amount of applications installed and special configuration on this machine it would take us months to get it back up and running.

Here is a link to the CBS logs: CBS.zip (55.71MB) - SendSpace.com

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Please manually upload the components hive by following these instructions:

Upload Components Hive
  1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config
  2. Right-click on the current COMPONENTS file and select copy
Note: If you get an error that the file is in use, reboot your computer and then try again.
  3. Right-click on your Desktop and select paste
  4. Right-click on the COMPONENTS file on your Desktop and select Send To -> Compressed (zipped) Folder
  5. Upload the zip from your Desktop to a file sharing service such as DropBox, OneDrive, SendSpace, etc. and include the link with your reply.

If possible try starting in Safe Mode to copy the Components hive, then reboot into normal mode to upload.
Let me know if that still doesn't work

Sorry about the delay, let's try this fix script.

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Very good. Go ahead and run SFC again, and when it completes zip and attach the CBS log file.

Code:
2020-03-10 18:41:16, Info CSI 000003a8 [SR] Cannot verify component files for Microsoft-Windows-MediaPlayer-Core, Version = 6.3.9600.18838, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_AMD64 (9), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type neutral, TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral, manifest is damaged (FALSE)

Is the file C:\Windows\WinSxS\Manifests\amd64_microsoft-windows-mediaplayer-core_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.18838_none_fc620fdc22e4beb5.manifest present? If so, please zip and attach it.

Would it be possible to get a zipped copy of the components hive from the server that had the file?

Good news is I found the file. A buddy had a box with it on it. Attaching new CBS.log, looks like its that mediaplayer file again.
