I'm unable to install KB4343900 in Windows 7 Pro SP1. Similarly, I was unable to install KB4338818 last month. (I see I'm not the only one to have this issue).

When I restart the computer it gets to 15% then reboots and continues installing whereupon it displays a failed message and reverting changes. No error message codes are displayed.

First time here so I hope I've done this correctly. Thanks.

Disaster !! I'm replying on my 2nd PC.

I followed the instructions and booted into Clean boot mode. Installed the update which actually succeeded.

When I booted back into normal mode I got a BSOD showing:-

Status : 0xc000000e
A requested device isn't connected or can't be accessed

I insert the Windows Repair disc; Pressed OK to repair and it rebooted to a screen which asked me to select one of the 2 options :-

Windows 7 (Recovered)
Windows 7 (Recovered)

neither of which is the current state of my PC. Both appear to be very old installations.

Hi again!

I'm very sorry to hear that. I have not done anything yet to fix the issue, but rather unloaded third party software for diagnostic purposes to see whether one of them was blocking the install. And apparently it was.

Why this resulted in a BSOD is beyond me, but I would like to try and get you up and running if you agree.

Please provide the following information when able:

1. List all of your computer hardware.
2. Have you experienced and hard drive problems before?
3. Do the following:

Step#1 - FRST Scan

1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 32-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.

2. Copy it to your USB drive.
3. Boot to recovery environment.
4. Launch CMD and launch FRST.exe from the USB.
5. Please ensure you place a check mark in the Addition.txt check box at the bottom of the form before running (if not already).
6. Press Scan button.
7. It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should now be the USB)
8. Please attach the log back here.

4. Do you have any earlier system restore points?

Another question: Is your HDD/SSD seen by your BIOS/UEFI?

It is very late and I'll be going to sleep very soon, but rest assured, I'll check up on you first thing tomorrow morning.

Hi. I've booted up the System Repair disc and into CMD. How do I access the USB drive. What's the drive letter ??

Hi!

Type notepad and press enter. When it opens, go to File... Select Open...
Navigate to Computer and you should see your USB drive listed. Use that drive letter.

Hi. I do believe panic over.

When the system rebooted after the successful update I went into 'msconfig' and stupidly selected 'Normal' startup NOT the selective which had many items disabled. Consequently, when the system booted up next time a dozen or so windows appeared which hadn't been used for quite a long time.

I sorted all that it everything appears fine and that security update succeeded at long last.

The only thing that is happening now is that I can't boot from the CD/DVD drive it just ignores my key-presses. Booting from a USB is OK. If you have any ideas as to why that is happening I'd be grateful.

Anyway, many thanks for your help. The original update problem was sorted pretty quickly - after I'd been searching the internet for days for a solution. Keep up the good work !!
