Hey, so I recently just got a brand new Nvidia GPU, I replaced it with the old one easily whilst installing it into the PC, but when it came to me installing the drivers for the GPU it just refuses to do so, no matter what I do it just won't allow me to install the drivers, current ones or older ones. I've tried DDU already, which removed all my Nvidia related applications (GeForce Experience) but that was it, it still wouldn't let me install the drivers, hell not even GeForce Experience now. I've tried running sfc scans multiple times and each time it's come up with "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.". I also tried a DISM but that also got me nowhere.

I found other people with the issue on these forums and they all got it solved in the end. I've attached some files that might be able to help get to the cause of issue.

Cheers in advance.

System Specs:
Windows 10
16GB RAM
RTX 2070 Super
Intel i7-4790k 4.00GHz

Hello and welcome!

Step 1 - Replace Drivers Hive Manually

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download DRIVERS.ZIP and save to your desktop.
  2. Right-click on it and select Extract all.... Make sure the "Show extracted files when complete" is checked and click Extract.
  3. Now we have the DRIVERS file that we will be using to replace your current one.
  4. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config
  5. Right-click on the current DRIVERS file and select rename. Rename it to DRIVERS.bad.
Note: If you get an error that the file is in use, reboot your computer and then try again.
  6. Take the file from the Drivers folder on your desktop and paste it into C:\Windows\System32\config

Thanks so much! I followed your steps and then retried downloading the drivers and it worked perfectly.
