Unable to install cumulative updates - Windows 11 23H2

Since installing 23H2 in fall of 2023, I have not been able to install any cumulative updates as far as I'm aware. They would initially appear to install correctly while windows was booted, but once the system was rebooted to finish install it would always get stuck on boot and eventually have an error message along the lines of "something went wrong, undoing changes." In place upgrades errored out. For now I have just been hiding the cumulative updates so I don't get stuck in boot loops. I unfortunately don't have any error messages saved from this time.

Over the last week or so the message has changed to "Some update files are missing or have problems. We'll try to download the update again later. Error code: (0x80070003)"

I was able to get this resolved through the instructions at this link:

It appears windows had somehow not created the EFI partition properly when I installed windows on this SSD (because there were other drives connected? unsure). I needed to wipe and recreate the EFI on the boot drive.
