Hi,
Since December, I have been unable to install any cumulative updates, namely KB5033372 or the latest KB5034122; both have failed with 0x8007000d, even when "Installing" is at 100%. I have ran both SFC and DISM commands; results flick between finding either no issues at all or finding one issue, usually the following:

wow64_microsoft-onecore-c..experiencehost-user_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.19041.3636_none_3beeb9b13bd205da

I have been able to use a donor PC's copy of the file to script SFCFix to fix this issue, and thus getting clean bills of health from both SFC and RestoreHealth, but I still get the same Windows Update error afterwards. All other updates have been installed without issue, it's just the Cumulatives that won't install.

Components Scanner used to also give a clean bill of health until I ran it again to generate the log for this post...

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks :)

Apologies for bumping/double posting, but I've been doing some analysis myself, and discovered that SFC, DISM, and Components Scanner only report errors after a failed update attempt.

I've provided a new "clean" set of CBS/Component Scanner logs below if it's of use to compare it against my earlier ones taken immediately after the failed update.

Thanks again :)

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Upload your COMPONENTS hive.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

Hi,

Step 1. Download
6530fbb0f4101-56f31e53c97da-SFCFix.PNG
SFCFix and save it to your desktop.

Warning: This fix was written specifically for this system. Do not run this fix on another system.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2. Run the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
Code:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

It seems the latest CBS log is corrupted (Windows cannot complete the extraction), so please reboot the system and attach the logfiles again.

Thanks, please post also a new cop of the COMPONENTS hive to look at.

Open an elevated command prompt and run the following command. Attach Dirlist.txt to your next post.
Code:
dir /s /a %systemroot%\WinSxS\wow64_microsoft-windows-inputservice_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.19041.3758_none_38cd157f23461ded > "%userprofile%\Desktop\Dirlist.txt"

Unfortunately I can't get the command to execute successfully. Running it in an elevated CMD prompt produces a blank file, and doing the same in PowerShell gives this error:Capture.PNG

Please do the following.

Download the

Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop:

Right-click on the file FRST64.exe and choose Run as administrator.
  • Copy and paste the following (code) into the Search box and click the Search Files button.
Code:
TextInputMethodFormatter.dll
  • When the scan is complete, a message will display that 'Search.txt' is saved in the same folder FRST was started from. Notepad will open this file also.
  • Post the logfile Search.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Unfortunately, the CBS.zip is corrupted again! I can't extract the CBS log (Windows cannot complete the extraction). So please reboot the system and attach a new copy of the CBS logs.
