Hello everyone,

My browsing history does not populate.

An online fix suggested changing the amount allowed for storage.

I tried that and I received a message saying "Please select a value between 8 and 8 for how much disk space temporary internet files may use.

Any help appreciated

Thanks

And did this problem just start? Did you recently make any changes, like install any cleaning programs?

History entries take up very little disk space. That seems like an odd fix to me.

Sorry,

The computer is running Windows 7 Professional SP1,

The browser is internet explorer.

The home page is Google Advanced search.

I removed OArmor about one month ago. I replaced it with Windows Firewall. I also run Eset Nod 32.

I worded my last statement poorly. The please select value between 8 and 8 was one of the problems I was trying to solved.

The only cleaning program I use is CCleaner.

Hope that helps a bit.

I had seen that fix before and tried it. I can change the number to 10 which I doubt would help given the parameters listed. However, I tried to save that change and receive the same message.

I don't use Internet Explorer so I can't offer much help.
I also don't like to save browsing history so my other browsers show little (Palemoon and Firefox) or nothing (Vivaldi).

I'll do a bit of searching but since Windows 7 support is ending in 6 months and MS doesn't want people to use Internet Explorer, I suspect most of what I find will be old articles.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here's an article (old) that suggests if a certain index.dat file grows above 16MB, history will not be saved.
Cannot view browser history in IE9
Unfortunately the link to See here for more information is gone. Probably removed by MS.
Check your auto complete entries as shown here
IE11 has stopped saving my browser history for no reason that I can see - any ideas?
I also found this
A client had a problem with not saving any browsing History in IE 11.
The cause turned out to be the system attribute was missing for the History folder in the user profile (%localappdata%). This can be added back via the command line using the code (Open the command prompt as as administrator
Code:
attrib +s "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\History"
Hi plodr,
I tried the code as an admin. The message was 'not resetting a hidden file"
I drilled down to the History folder and it was empty.
Maybe I drilled down incorrectly I went to
C:\Users\(UserName)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\History
If that is correct I must have done something really bad. I asume its not supposed to be empty.
Well you're doing better than me because I have no History folder under
C:\Users\(UserName)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\
As I said, I don't use IE so perhaps that is part of the problem.
I am running windows 7 pro and IE 11. The temporary internet file size has been set to "0", and I am not able to adjust it. I tried move file to different location, and use regedit to change cache size. Reboot computer. Same result. When I change temporary internet files disk size, alsway get error message "Please select a value between 8 and 8 for how mush disk space Temporary Internet Files may use".
Since Windows 7 has less than 2 months of life left in it, it probably is not worth spending time trying to fix IE 11 on a Win 7 computer.
This thread from May 2015 mentions the same problem.
Can't set temp internet folder size. Says 'set a value between 8 and 8mb. Only goes to 10 and reverts to 0mb.
The last post has a solution BUT note it is Windows 10, not 7.
Perhaps the 8th post here
Unable to change temporary internet files disk size, error message: please select a value between 8 and 8 for how much disk space Temporary Internet Files may use
