[SOLVED] Unable apply monthly Rollup updates on Windows 7 x64 Home

Hello guys!
First time here, it took me some time do seek for help regarding my win7 update problem,
so i hope i'm posting my thread in the right place.
It all began about 2 years ago when my Win7 started to fail when applying the monthly
rollup updates. Is specific related to these updates, all other updates are working fine.
The system hangs when downloading and even when i download the whole update on
Microsoft catalog it fails to install. I keep getting an error code 80073712.
I have tried all kinds of solution from windows7 troubleshooting, Wu troubleshooting,
renaming (deleting) catroot2 and SoftwareDistribution, running sfc (fails to correct some
system files), SURT/DISM and finally SFCFix which gave me the following logfile:

I'm preparing a fix for you, in the mean time I need more information from the system please collect the following 3 files.

Retrieve the Components Hive
  1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file
  2. Please copy the COMPONENTS file to your desktop
    Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again
  3. Right-click on this file on your Desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your Desktop
  4. If file will is too large to upload to the forum please share the file using a service like Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, or upload to www.sendspace.com and just provide the link for the file here

Export Registry Hive (CBS)
  • download the script ExportCBSRegistry2.cmd and save it to the Desktop
  • right-click the file ExportCBSRegistry2.cmd and select Run as administrator
  • when the script ends a new file called SoftwareCBS.zip will be located on the Desktop
  • If the zip file is too large to upload to the forum please share the file using a service like Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, or upload to www.sendspace.com and just provide the link for the file here

  • download the script ExportSbSRegistry.cmd and save it to the Desktop

inside this folder in my dropbox:

I found out the my config folder is full of duplicated files.
I forgot some time ago i have used Iobit Registry defrag....
that probably helped to scramble my system. im attaching
a print screen here...is it safe to delete the old components,
default, sam, security, software and system files ?
I think these are backups...

Hi,

Don't delete nothing for now, some errors are related to missing registry entry's! eventually we may need to look at those old backups.

By the way we don't recommend to use any of those programs that optimize/defrag/etc. the registry, they have the big potential to do more harm than good...

Lets start fixing some things to see how it goes...

SFCFix Script

!!! WARNING !!! The following fix is only relevant for this system and no other, applying this fix on another computer will not work and most likely will cause problems...
  • Download SFCFix.exe (by Niemiro) and save it to the Desktop
  • Download the file SFCFIX.ZIP, attached below, and save this to your Desktop
  • On your Desktop, make sure you have the two files:
    myjIXnC.png
    SFCFix.exe and
    sfpcJCen14An3ndjNGCI7mByhjHJud.png
    SFCFIX.zip
  • Drag the file SFCFIX.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it
  • The SFCFix tool will process the script
  • Upon completion, a log file SFCFix.txt should be created on your Desktop
  • Open the SFCFix.txt log and copy & paste the contents to your post

System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
  • Download the System Update Readiness Tool (x64) and save it to some place, its a big download and eventually we need to run it several times, please keep the file
  • Run the tool. Its like an Update but it can take a long time to do the work. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running
  • Please attach to your post the log from the following location: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
    Note:
    If the file is too big please Zip it and upload the ZIP file to a service like Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive or upload to SendSpace and just provide the link for the file here.

Completed sucessfully, as usual.
I have applied this update several times before,
just to let you know...as soon as the WUPD started
crashing 1 year and a half ago i downloaded this tool
recommended in some microsoft topic.
And the log is attached here..pretty small!!

The System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) is available like an Update but its actually a fixing tool that every time its used tries to detect and resolve problems...


Install Update using Dism
  1. Please download KB2909210 Download Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2909210) from Official Microsoft Download Center save the file to c:\windows\temp
  2. open the Command Prompt as Administrator (Tutorial)
  3. type or Copy & Paste the following commands line by line:

    cd /d c:\windows\temp
    expand windows6.1-KB2909210-x64.msu -f:* C:\windows\temp
    DISM.exe /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:C:\windows\temp\windows6.1-KB2909210-x64.cab

  4. You should receive the message:
    The operation completed successfully.
    Restart Windows to complete this operation.
    Do you want to restart the computer now (Y/N)?
  5. Make sure to allow the computer to restart if prompted.

    If you receive any other message:
  6. Right-click on the Command Prompt window and click Select All, this will invert all of the colours by selecting the text, now press enter. All of this text is now copied.
  7. Paste (Ctrl+V) it into your next post please.

That is good lets see if it worked, please run the SUR tool again by following the instructions from post #8 and post the new log.

The instalation completed and i believe generated no new log,
The CheckSUR log we got is attached but i believe the last
record was april 09...I believe we got no erros this time!!:-)
Anyway it is here the log.

Can you try to search for new Windows Updates and try to install them.

If it fails please take note of the KB that is installing and any error message and code generated.

Export the CBS folder
  1. Open the folder C:\Windows\Logs
  2. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy
  3. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS
  4. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder
  5. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created
    If zip file is too large to upload to the forum please share the file using a service like Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive or upload to SendSpace and just provide the link for the file here.
