I have Acer Nitro 5 AN515-52 laptop.

I am using headphones via 3.5 mm jack.

I wanted to increase the bass but couldn't find bass boost in the enhancements tab.

I am using the latest stable version of Windows 10 - 1903 (64 bit). My drivers are up to date (checked via device manager and window update)

Typing realtek hd manager in search bar of start menu doesn't show any results. Therefore, I went to the folder C:\Program Files\Realtek\Audio\HDA

and clicked on RtkNGUI64.exe. Nothing happened. Ran as administrator, still nothing. Disabled my antivirus, still nothing.

Then I clicked on RAVCpl64.exe. and the window that opened doesn't have sound effects option as it should have.

What should I do to fix the issue?

I think you might be looking for what is described in this video … ? It details how to get OEM drivers from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

I just tried it. After the device manager update feature scans the extracted contents of the folder, it says that the best drivers for your device are already installed.

Can you post the link to the package you downloaded?

Actually, I'll post what I think you need and see if it's what you already tried. On this page towards the bottom I think you want the 109.4MB download (6.0.1.8603). I believe it's the full package of Realtek drivers available at the time while the smaller packages may or may not contain a newer driver for a particular system.

My already installed driver version is 10.0.18362.1. Should I go ahead with this one (6.0.1.8603 ) you shared?

I believe you should be trying to update it from the "Sounds, video and game controllers node - the Realtek item. Mine looks like this, for example:

edit: To answer your question - that's just a generic Microsoft driver for speakers but I don't think it will be overwritten by the installer. The package I linked should be for the Realtek audio device and include OEM software for audio management.

Okay. I just tried yours using the Sounds, video and game controllers node. Got the message 'windows successfully updated your drives'. Will reply soon after more feedback.... Thanks for pin-pointing the correct process!

No worries. I'd recommend doing a Restart even if it didn't suggest it... just to make sure everything is initialized properly. A system tray icon should appear for the Realtek Audio Manager as well.

Okay, I restarted. Still the same behaviour. The exact same behaviour. No option for sound effects still...

Is there a Realtek Audio Manager in the system tray? If so, have you opened it and tried to use the options it makes available? Mine looks like this:

No, it doesn't show up in the system tray at all.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if it would have the OEM software for your device but I was hoping it might. It looks like there is a fairly new Realktek audio driver available from the support site for your computer. Have you already tried it?

I never downloaded the sound driver from the acer website. I let windows update the audio drivers always. I recall the last one was showing in October 2018 in the properties when you pointed out the 'Sounds, video and game controllers node ' path for me. This was the first time I updated the audio drivers separately via an installed package on this machine.

The driver on Acer's website is of April 2018, while the one you shared with me is of December 2018.

Your replies have been very prompt!! Thanks a ton for staying and trying. Really appreciate.. #thumbsup!!

It's not unusual for a driver to be older from the manufacturer's website but they likely include the OEM software that will allow what you're trying to do. The driver may or may not be overwritten with the older version but the additional software should include the Realtek Audio Manager.

The setup uninstalled my previously installed driver, then asked me to reboot it. After restart, the setup automatically began from where it left off and completed the installation. Then it asked me to reboot. I did reboot. I am still facing the same issue. Nothing new has happened. No realtek manager in start menu, neither in system tray. Here's the screenshot from the device manager properties....

Windows automatically updated this driver to version 6.0.1.8555 today. Still no respite from the trouble....
