Hey guys and gals on the forum I just increase my ram output to 8 gbs and now I am ready to go higher and move up to windows 8 from windows vista . I am having a hard time finding windows 8 or 8.1 installation disc so I can do a clean install. I ran the windows 8 upgrade assistance and it showed me what is compatible and what is not like secure boot isn't compatible and I will have to use a third party dvd app to play dvd's but that's cool ,getting the installation disc with the product key no# is not so easy and if anyone knows where to find these things I will greatly appreciate that. Let's go higher in 2019 my friends.:wave:

I have to ask, why W8.1 instead of W10? If your computer is compatible with W8.1, it most likely is with W10. There's a good reason W8.1 has less than 7% market share of all the Windows versions. And there is a good reason W10 now has a commanding lead even over W7 (52.42% vs 35.65%).
Note too, end of mainstream support for W8.1 already end a full year ago!
You don't want W8.0.
I recommend you purchase a W10 license and go from there.

That wise counselling there my friend, the reason I thought about windows 8 because this machine is about 9 years old and I wasn't sure if it could handle windows 10 requirements, so windows 10 it will be, once I run the test for windows 10 upgrade advisory if this machine can handle it then that's what I am going to chose.
Ran the windows 8 compatibility test again because windows 10 compatible test will require the same as the windows 8 test and there are 5 apps that is not compatible but these should not be a major problem for me I don't think . 1 most install an app to play dvd. 2 secure boot isn't compatible. 3 no sidebar apps. 4 ati catalyst manager reinstall it in windows 8 . 5 ccc-core static renistall it in windows 8 . of course I would reinstall the last two in windows 10 . So what do you think ? are these major setbacks or should I go forward to the latest windows?
I don't see any major problems. You should probably check your hardware websites for compatible drivers. I note my 9 year old Toshiba notebook only has W8.1 drivers available. But W10 installed on it with those drivers no problem.
For sure, as with any major upgrade, you should make sure you have backups of any files you don't want to lose before starting this. While Microsoft has done a really good job of supporting a lot of legacy hardware, it really is up to the hardware maker to ensure compatibility. Sadly, they have little (no actually) incentive to do so since there is no money in it for them. They would much rather you buy new hardware designed for the latest operating systems.
