Hi ,

I have been having trouble installing updates on this Win7 machine.

I ran sfc/scannow and that produced a large file (145MB) and reported unfixed errors (too large to upload zip file)

I then ran SFCfix. I have attached that logfile here.

Can you please help me resolve these issues ?

Thanks MH

Hi Matth2705 :welcome: to Sysnative.

System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
  • Download the System Update Readiness Tool (x64) and save it to some place, its a big download and eventually we need to run it several times, please keep the file
  • Run the tool. Its like an Update but it can take a long time to do the work. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running
  • Please attach to your post the log from the following location: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
    Note:
If the file is too big please Zip it and upload the ZIP file to a service like Dropbox, Google Drive, One Drive or upload to SendSpace and just provide the link for the file here.

Hi,

Lets start doing some fixing, there is more to do...

SFCFix Script

!!! WARNING !!! The following fix is only relevant for this system and no other, applying this fix on another computer will not work and most likely will cause problems...
  • Download SFCFix.exe (by Niemiro) and save it to the Desktop
  • Download the file SFCFIX.ZIP, attached below, and save this to your Desktop
  • On your Desktop, make sure you have the two files:
    myjIXnC.png
    SFCFix.exe and
    sfpcJCen14An3ndjNGCI7mByhjHJud.png
    SFCFIX.zip
  • Drag the file SFCFIX.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it
  • The SFCFix tool will process the script
  • Upon completion, a log file SFCFix.txt should be created on your Desktop
  • Open the SFCFix.txt log and copy & paste the contents to your post

Hi,

Run the SUR tool again and post the new C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log

Thanks again for the fast turn-around.

Here is the file. I will automatically send a new one with each response.

Regards
MH

Its difficult to say why this happens, usually some glitch during the installation of updates, in some cases errors created by bad updates, etc...

The log no longer show problems that need fixing. Now force Windows to search for new updates, if it lists some updates labeled "Preview of..." skip/hide them, try only to install other updates related with Security or Monthly Rollups.

Please report the result. In case of errors report the KB number and any error codes.

Hello SleepyDude,

I did manage to install updates, although it took a few attempts for some of them . See attached .png screen shots.

I the ran sfc /scannnow. That still failed with corrupt files. SFC4-CBS.zip

I the ran SFCFix and that fixed a few errors. SFC4Fix.txt

Finally I ran the CheckSUR again. CheckSUR,log

I am unsure if the system is fixed or not, because the sfc /scannow still fails ??

Thanks again for your help

MH

Hi,

The errors are expected, we have to try some things and collect the generated logs to find the errors that need fixing...

Please apply the attached fix then run SFC /scannow, if it continues to report errors upload the new CBS.log

Hello SleepyDude,

Success at last !! No errors in sfc /scannow.

Your help is much appreciated.
Thanks again

Hi,

Good, now try to install the updates again and in case of errors post the new CBS.log and the error code.
