This is NOT related to the other SFC thread from a few days ago.

Compaq CQ2011 (from 2011), Win7 Home Premium SP1, 3GB RAM total, 500GB HDD total.

Someone on bleepingcomputer forums suggested I contact you.

For a long time I've noticed from repeated SFC runs that three files are corrupted, and that their storage-folder copies also have issues.

The BC poster referred me to your 2012 post about posting to this forum.

The one complication with this, is that I can't compress the whole CBS.log file ('access denied' error when opening), but oddly was able to generate an sfcdetails.txt file.

I also ran SFCFix, and its report is attached along with the sfcdetails.txt.

I do not have an official Windows DVD; I did, with help from sevenforums, generate an ISO DVD for a repair install.

I await your response.

The fix didn't go as expected.

  1. Download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop:
64-bit: Downloading Farbar Recovery Scan Tool
  2. Right-click to run the tool as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  3. Note: Ensure that the Addition.txt check box is checked at the bottom of the form within the Optional Scan area.
  4. Press the Scan button.
  5. Please wait for the tool to finish. It will produce two logfiles called FRST.txt and Addition.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should be the desktop)
  6. Post the logfiles FRST.txt and Addition.txt as attachment in your next reply.

In case you see multiple disks mentioned with the same stats, I use Visual Subst from NTWind.com to provide quick(er) access to areas I use frequently. The 'recovery' disk, like the virtual ones, is located on the primary HDD, but I also use at least three different USB drives, and have the ISO of Win7 from the original post.

Right-click the file C:\Users\RD\Desktop\SFCFix.zip and select "Extract All".
Do not change anything and let it extract in the default location.
A folder called C:\Users\RD\Desktop\SFCFix will be created on your desktop.
Tell me if this went successful or not.

Click the Start button and typ in the searchbox CMD.
If CMD is listed above, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each.

Code:
CD C:\Users\RD\Desktop
Code:
SFCFix C:\Users\RD\Desktop\SFCFix.zip

Did SFCfix ran the fix successfull or not ?
Post the logfile Fixlog.txt on your Desktop as attachment in your next reply.

Sorry to take so long... non-computer stuff.

You: "Did SFCfix ran the fix successfull or not ? "

Nope; as you'll find, the same thing happened again.

I figured you'd ask this next, so I went ahead and did it:

I copied the folders from the zip file to c:\windows\winsxs; even though I have UAC on, they went through.

Then I ran sfc /scannow again, and it finished without problem.

Well done. For some reason SFCFix doesn't run a fix as expected on your machine.
Any other issues left or can we close this thread ?

Back at BC I had some issues with refreshing Windows Experience Index, but was told only hardware upgrade could remedy them.

I guess we're done for now. Thanks for all your help.
