When trying to open files I've opened before, such as Word Documents, Excel Spreadsheets, or even MP4s with VLC, it no longer works. I simply receive the error "This file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action. Please install an app or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Apps Settings page."

When I do try to set defaults, it only has Notepad and the option to pick an App from the app store. In addition, right clicking and using "Open With" results in the same error.

This started happening a few days ago and I'm not sure what changed, perhaps an automatic Windows Update. I haven't installed any new software aside from Windows Updates in months.

Hi there,

1. Put your user account to the Administrators group and delete it from the other groups
2. then log off and log in and should no longer have these problems.
You can do this in in the Control Panel \ All Control Panel Items \ Administrative Tools \ Computer menagment.
