finally getting 196 updates to fall in now my system restore is not working cannot create system restore point

Wow.

Now that your machine is working, save the work done by you and BrianDrab: create a system image (windows backup, aomei backupper standard, or your preferred tool)!!!

xilolee glad to hear from you from all the hard good work that has been done to this machine from Brian and you lately this machine is still acting up. I performed a factory restore and got everything in order the files and updates were falling after Brian helped me then I noticed after the updates were finished a restore point attempt failed. The message said task image is corrupt 8004132 then I did a registry restore and the system restore message changed to could not create task when the file already exists 800700b7 now I have corrupt sfc /scannow and corrupt checksur. . here is the logs and you can tell me the next best thing to do

you techs guys and ladies I am gladly reporting that I by the grace of God fixed my restore point problem by going into my registry and exporting a key and deleting a key then I used tweaking windows .com repair volume shadow restore and bam! I set the restore point and it took . It wasn't until I took courage to go into the registry and moved somethings around because I tried the tweaking windows.com by it self many times with no success. The registry tweak along with the tweaking windows .com made the difference. Now just help me with theses corrupt files and i should be good. some how i lost all my updates also maybe the fixtures of the corrupt files will help with that.

Willy2 what's up my allocated to restore point is 10 Gb and I all ready made a restore point the main thing now is the two logs that I sent to get repaired the checksur and the cbs log to fix these bad files . Let's do it

Good!

Why don't you post the steps to reproduce that solution?

Try to re-run the surt only.
By the way, windows update problems should be discussed in windows update sub-forum: continue in the other old thread.

:thumbsup2:

Xilolee I had thought about that but me not being a computer tech didn't want give information to someone and they mess up their computer because they would be dealing with their registry and I didn't know if you guys would get offended if I tried to instruct people on your forum on how to correct a problem that I had solved. Remember Xilolee I went from four different error messages before the solution was revealed, and I spent eleven hours on this problem so a person would have to know a little something about a computer and how to navigate the registry, and how to backup their registry before they even try to attempt the changes that I made, so that is why I didn't explain all the steps I took on the forum.

Xilolee for the corrupt sfc /scannow files and checksur corruption with the updates problem now again should I create a new post or go back to the last post with Brian. I feel very bad that after all the hard good work that Brian had done that I am going back to him again for a similar problem he must be thinking that I am doing some reckless things on this computer but I am not. After the updates had updated I noticed that my restore points didn't work any more so I did a registry restore and it seem to bring me back to a point that negated the good work that Brian had previous. Once these corruptions are fix everything should be fine

Thanks Willy2 for the info and showing me a new utility tool to use when needed. Can you or Xilolee fix the sfc/ scannow files corruption and the checksur missing files and packages which I sent the logs to both of them in the third thread of this post , which would have a positive impact on all the operations of this machine and if you can can we do this today. fixing the system restore problem was the hardest problem for me fixing the sfc and checksur will only take you guys 10 minutes to fix.

I'm not trained and allowed to fix CBS (component based servicing), with the sfcfix tool or surt.
That's why you should ask in the windows update forum (where there are sfc experts, trained and allowed).

You can try to launch "sfc /scannow" and surt themselves alone, usually they can fix something on their own.
But if errors remain after two-three times you ran them, you'll need windows update experts.

Thanks for the response Xilolee I didn't open a new thread but continued on the last thread with Brian hoping that he will see it and response. Once Brian see the logs it will take him no time to instruct me on how to fix it up.

@carl a: I can relate. a lot of help on this forum fixed my broken windows update, then I noticed that my restore points wasn't working anymore. xilolee and willy2 helped me to fix that issue elegantly and now it seems that again my windows update isn't working anymore...(I'm on vista business).

yea Humble this windows vista causes many problems once you get your machine working properly it is imperative to set a specific system restore point and backup your registry doing both on the same day at around the same time because if issues arises you can put your system back to the state where it was when it was working properly. With windows vista you will have more problems and less ways to fix them since windows vista is an older software and microsoft is not supporting it any longer. once these updates get fix I am backing up my system. I appreciate your empathy, and I saw that you were following my threads as I was following yours. Now that you open up a dialogue we can discuss like concerns

yes carl a, good advice. and yes, I do not expect help from MS with this. Vista support supposedly ends by April 2017 but I don't feel like switching system now because that machine is also older, RAM and storage limited. Newer system needs more resources.

What I'll do, if/when I ever get WU update fixed, I will make restore point, registry backup and a complete system backup image that I can fall back on when there is trouble.

Otherwise I have no problem with Vista. It has served me well most of the time for years.
