System File Checker / Windows Update Errors

Initial problem was Windows would not boot nor would it boot to safe mode. Finally was able to boot copying the backup registry to the main registry. (That was the only thing that worked. Still have a later registry backup available.)

Issues now are SFC/ Scannow - "Windows Resources Protection could not perform the requested operation." and Windows Update gives error message 80073712.


Trying to avoid a reinstall of Windows 7 by either trying to repair these files or an also try to import a different registry backup

Tried sfc repair and received this text

Hi welcome to Sysnative,

You have to restore from the same backup also the file COMPONENTS to c:\Windows\System32\config\
