Hello there!

So im running windows 8.1. brand new system.

One of the svchost in task manager constantly sits at 14 to 15%. I've found that wuauserv and other associated services were causing the problem. I've attempted stopping these services and deleting the contents in the software distribution folder located in the windows folder. This actually worked, but temporarily as all the files return after about 30 minutes and cpu usage returns to 14%.

Any assistance would be much appreciated!

Cheers

- Run the SFCfix tool and post the results in your next reply. (assuming it's not too large).
- If the tool doesn't report any corruptions/errors then try this guide (although it provides only a few suggestions for Win 8)
Solve Windows Update problem (High CPU & memory usage)

- Alongside with each monthly update Microsoft issues a socalled "Security Bulletin". It contains links to the individual updates. Perhaps installing one of those would help to fix WU.
