Hi My name is Patrick, I am currtently running Windows 7 64 bit and my Windows Update is forever saying "restart your computer to finish installing important updates" and no matter how many times I restart my computer nothing ever happens. This started yesterday after some up dates were loaded. I did go in and remove all the updates dated 6-1-16 and still nothing. I have been searching for hours through so many different websites and forums following every single different instruction. I have tried sever different things and nothing is changing. I do know if I should try to reload Win 7 or Not.

I have tried running the Windows Update Troubleshooter to no avail, I get the following messages:
Windows Update error 0x80070057 (2016-06-02-T-08_33_00A) - Not fixed
Service registration is missing or corrupt - Fixed
Problems installing recent updates - Fixed
Problems installing recent updates - Fixed

Thank you for your help.

SFCFix - Fix Time

WARNING! The following fix is specific to the user's system in this thread. No one else should follow the instructions below to apply that fix, as it could damage your system. If you need assistance with an issue, please start a new thread and someone will assist you shortly.

Follow the instructions below to download and execute a SFCFix fix, and provide the log.
  • Download SFCFix and move the executable on your Desktop;
  • On your Desktop, right-click and select New, then Text Document. Give it the name SFCFixScript (it should be a .txt) extension;
  • Open the SFCFixScript.txt file you just created, and copy/paste the following in it;
    Code:
    ::
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update\RebootRequired]
  • Save any work you have open, and close every programs;
  • Drag the SFCFixScript.txt file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it;
    1p8eDnI.gif
  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete;
  • Once done, a file will appear on your Desktop, called SFCFix.txt;
  • Open the file, then copy and paste its content in your next reply;

SFCFix down loaded fine and I was able to copy it to my Desktop. However when I right click it does not give an option or NEW. Where Do I go from Here?

You need to right-click on the desktop directly (the background), not SFCFix :)

I did this 2 times and SFCFix completed each time in under 1 second, where the very first time I ran this it took over ten minutes.

Should I uninstall the SFCFix and reinstall it after rebooting?

You cannot uninstall SFCFix, since it's only an executable. Let's try this instead. Download the following Script.reg and save it on your desktop. Double-click on it, and accept to merge the changes in your Registry. Do you get a success or error message afterward?

This came up as a .tex How do I start it? When I double click I get this
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update\RebootRequired]

You can change the extension to .reg instead of .txt. Though I don't know why you would get it as a .txt since it's really a .reg in my Dropbox.

It comes up as Script.reg.txt, So how do I change this. I am not sure how to do this. I trice to open and change with properties but can't find how.

You need to enable file extensions in the Folder Options. Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types" and from there, rename the whole file directly (using F2) to Script.reg

Aura,

I copied Script.reg to my dropbox and got it to work. It said at the end the it was successful at the end.

Alright. Now restart your computer, and see if you still get the same message that Wndows needs to finish installing updates.

Aura,

Thank you for all of your help. It seams to be working right now.

I can not thank you enough.
