Hi. :-)

I have a problem with playing Steam games on my Windows 11 computer. I am not sure when the issue began. I go to my Steam account, start the game and I get a black square screen (I cant even make it larger) and only sound.

Reminder: I had this issue before, and I think there was no issue before we changed the graphics? But as I said before, I am not sure when this began.

In the Device Manager, I have AMD and NVidia as Display adapters. They are both updated. I tried disabled each one, one by one, restarted, but still the problem is there.

Ideas? Let me know if you want me to provide more details.

What is the Tobii Eye Tracking software? Can you disable it and try the game?

And the Killer Intelligence Center. Killer software has a reputation for causing issues. If you don't use it, uninstall it.

If you need the Killer driver for this:
Code:
Killer(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX1650x 160MHz Wireless Network Adapter
Only install the driver and not the software.

I uninstalled Tobii and Killer Intelligence Center. Steam issue not resolved.

Looking back on the old thread, I still think the integrated graphic chip is somehow conflicting with the Primary.

Do you have any issues playing Youtube videos?

7PM there correct? I only ask to get it straight in my head the time difference. :-)

I have no problems with Youtube. Just with Steam, and to be honest I don't use it often. It just came to me to play Commandos, Behind Enemy Lines, today! :D

Yes, it is 19:19 right now, and I'll be away from the computer in a while.

Rob, I downloaded and installed the new BIOS update as well as the NVidia driver update. Steam works properly now.

Another coffee to you by me! Thank you! :D

Isn't it strange that from Device Manager I got the message that the drivers are up to date? Now I installed the System Update by Lenovo, so I can check from time to time the system.

An update on this:

After updating NVidia and BIOS, the settings in BIOS changed automatically, with Discrete graphics (NVidia) enabled and Dynamic disabled. Steam worked fine, as I mentioned above, but again I started having the issues described here. Since I don't use Steam very often, I disabled Discrete and enabled Dynamic again. Now the computer works fine, but Steam does not.

Is there a way to resolve these issues, having everything work fine?

First, enable the discreet graphics, reboot. Then-can you uninstall Steam with Revo or similar and re-install?

I had a laptop that did not want to let go of the integrated/dynamic graphics but I can't remember what I did to fix it. It has an Ubuntu derivative named Backbox installed on it now.

Rob, the thing is that when the discrete graphics are enabled, the computer doesn't run well.

Rob, I just did the above recommendations. Now, I'll see if my computer crashes again, when using the discrete graphics. I'll give it a week maximum.

It seems that no freezing, after uninstalling and reinstalling the driver. One issue remains, however: when I choose a movie from Netflix, there is audio with no video. I read that this may be due to a non updated driver, but this is not the issue now. When this happens, even the Control-Alt-Delete doesn't help. The Task Manager appears for a few seconds and then disappears, giving its place to the black screen of Netflix.
