Hi, and thanks for your time. Drive went and restarted this system from a iso disk I have for win 7 pro. I ran and iso file win 6.1-kb3020369-x64 service stack update which worked, then iso win 6.1-kb3125574-v4-x64... update standalone package to get the many updates installed but failed. Was stuck not able to get some other updates but IE was no longer supported. I tried to get chrome with no luck so loaded firefox to at least use the internet. I then ran sfc scannow with errors and found a link to sysnative and ran sfcfix but with errors. So this is where I'm at, I did all the things you asked for and will include them. Thank you.

Hi,

Thanks for the log.

System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
  • Download the System Update Readiness Tool (x64) and save it to some place, its a big download and eventually we need to run it several times, please keep the file
  • Run the tool. Its like an Update but it can take a long time to do the work. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running
  • Please attach to your post the log from the following location: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
    Note:
If the file is too big please Zip it and upload the ZIP file to a service like Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive or upload to SendSpace and just provide the link for the file here.

I received your e-mail reply to download and run the SUR tool from MS. I downloaded the tool windows6.1-Kb947821-v34-x64.msu and tried to run it but got an error right away, "Installer encountered an error: 0x8007000d The data is invalid." I have the download on my desktop.
Thank you, Jim.

Hi,

The error is because a corrupted download! try downloading the tool using a different browser.

Well, I guess this is a bigger problem than I thought. I have downloaded from MS via IE and Firefox with always the same result. I downloaded from my pc home and put on two different usb drive's and put on this pc's desktop with still the same problem, many corrupted downloads. This file cannot be run on this pc for some reason. What's my best option from here? My original goal was to get win 7 back running and up to date then moving over to win 10 seeing how 7 leaves us next year. Any thoughts? Sorry for the heartache.

Hi,

It seems we need to run some diagnostics on the machine...

Is this a Laptop or Desktop? brand and model?

What type of storage HDD or SSD?

Thanks for the info.

Dell machines usually have diagnostic tools build-in please try to run the tests, specially for the memory and HDD.

F2 key should gives access to the diagnostics tools if pressed immediately after starting the machine, before the Operating System starts loading.

Well, my results are in. I ran diags on the box and kept coming up with memory failing. I had 4 sticks of 1gb installed and could not get one to work. I figure I have a bad MB and decided not to use this box. I went back to my origional acer that died and was able to repair it. I would like to thank you for wakeing me up to check the hardware and will use this site again. Thank you.

Hi,

Thank You for the update, you did also a good job completing the diagnostic.

Feel free to post here when you need it.
