I'm having the exact same problem as the OP. I've already search through the MS support site and run the SURT. The results are the same as the OP's results with the following exception:

On the very last line of the CheckSUR.log file, I get the following line:

"(w) Unable to get system disk properties 0x0000045D IOCTL_STORAGE_QUERY_PROPERTY Disk Cache "

Let me know if I should open this as a separate post.

Thanks.

Hello wercahn, welcome to Sysnative!

Can you download and install the System Update Readiness Tool please?

Download System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [August 2013] from Official Microsoft Download Centre

Post the log when complete:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

Hello QTQL3, welcome to Sysnative!

I have split your post from the other thread to avoid any confusion :)

Can you zip up this folder:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS

And this file:

C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log

And attach them both to your next post please!

Tom

Hi Tom,

I was unable to zip up the entire CBS directory due to a permissions issue. I have, however, included the output from the SURT program and the windowsupdate.log files.

As you might notice in the logs, the machine with the issue is a virtual machine. So if we need to try something potentially hazardous, I can easily recover.

Thanks for your assistance.

Hi QTQL3,

This is a perfectly normal error to appear in a log generated in a virtual machine:

Code:
(w)	Unable to get system disk properties	0x0000045D	IOCTL_STORAGE_QUERY_PROPERTY	Disk Cache

Your Windows Update log shows signs of an 0x800B0100 errorL

Can you run this FixIt in Aggressive Mode please:

You receive a "0x80070002" or "0x80070003" error code after you download an update from Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or from Windows Server Update Services

Reboot when complete, then try to update and post the WindowsUpdate.log if it fails.

party time! It worked - or something did. I had already run the Fix-it tool twice, and, I thought, the second time in aggressive mode. However, after seeing the results of the aggressive mode this time, I must not have checked that box on the second run.

It wiped all of the update history. When I went to check for new updates, it took a very long time and returned the same two important ones and all of the optional ones that I had previously hidden (mostly international language packs).

I selected the two important updates that had been failing and they installed this time. :grin1:

(now here is my doubt about whether it was the fix-it aggressive mode or not: When I shut down the VM last night, it auto-installed a single update. Then I read this article today: Microsoft reissues September patches after user complaints ? The Register So was that a magic fix-it patch from MS? :noidea:)

In any event, thank you very much for your assistance.

Hello QTQL3,

Excellent! Glad to hear you're up and running again :)

Yes, I'm afraid it's an unfortunate side effect of deleting the SoftwareDistribution folder, but there is no way to preserve it so it's just something we have to deal with.

There's only one way to find out what solved it: try it on another thread! Let's see how this goes:

The FixIt will have fixed the 0x800B0100 that Windows Update was complaining about, but who knows whether than has any connection to your other error.

How do you fix this type of issue on multiple servers in a domain.
I have 4 Windows 2008 32bits and 4 64bits

Hello Fotunba, welcome to Sysnative!

I'm afraid I have no idea on that one, I don't have any server experience. Start a new thread of your own and perhaps someone else might be able to help.
