[SOLVED] [SPLIT] Internet keeps disconnecting

Hey, just want to add to this thread, since I have the exact same problem (and even posting a reply is difficult thanks to my unstable internet! >:C)

I went a bit further and was recommended to do that DISM cleanup thing, didn't really get it. It picked up a few corrupted files though, and I'm wondering if they may be relevant.

This is part of the log that SRCFix spat out. I find that icrav03.rat could be suspicious.

Oh right! If it means anything, I'm using an Ethernet connection right now. My attempts at using th wireless in where I'm at is too wonky. Whether it is caused by the same error or it's just poor signalling, I cannot tell.

Let's start by fixing the SFC corruptions:

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.


  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl + C) and Paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

Ah, there we go. Hopefully with my problem moved to its own thread i can outline my issue with further detail.

As of now, i have tried the following to attempt to restore a proper functionality to my internet:

-Ran CBSFix. A lot.
-Scanned for viruses. Came up clean all the time until it picked up jcgriff's network probe.
-Attempted to reset the winsock, or whatever the code was. It didn't fix the issue but the symptoms stayed away for a full minute and a half then came back. (Trollface completely optional)
-Did the CBSFix and virus scan procedures on safe mode. No such luck either.

One recurring result I noticed is that the files named icrav03.rat stayed corrupted regardless of my efforts, however CBSFix prompted me to use the Windows DVD at times which I assume were to repair those damaged files. Unfortunately I don't have one of those, and indeed my laptop doesn't have a CD slot either.

Exhausted my options, and feeling a bit desperate too. I rather not do a full factory reset over two files so....

Edit: thanks for the reply Tekno! I'll give that a whack, see if the computer budges this time.

Technically I meant the copy function didn't work. I should have made that clearer.

Also, the download is proving to be infuriating as well. The unstable connection is causing the zip file to constantly stop downloading, it seems utterly dependant on luck too as one time I downloaded 10 mb of the zip file and another as little as 3.9 mb before the connection broke. Is there some way to keep the connection open for longer, so to speak?

Edit: Scratch that. Looks like something clicked this time and it stayed open long enough for me to grab the zip.

Well.... That teaches me not to be impatient and try something drastic after a day of no replies. I tried a system refresh to repair the issue, then after seeing it did bugger-all to repair the issue i (rather crudely) copy-pasted the files from the Windows.old file, restarted it, and now the thing won't even start up properly.

While I, the world's biggest dumbass, tries to get it to work, I'd like to hear if there's any options avaliable.
 
Assuming it did start up immediately following the Windows reinstall and before the copying of files from Windows.old - try reinstalling Windows again.

This time, upon reaching Desktop, check for Windows updates and let all outstanding W/U install first before installing anything else.
 
Well..... as it turned out, the system refresh decided to remove half the data on my computer after I did the refresh. My games T.T

Also, it didn't just not repair the internet issue. It somehow shuffled up my technical issues:

-Attempting to troubleshoot the network adapter causes "Scripted Diagnostics Native Host has stopped working" to pop up and causes the diagnostic to fail, so now I can't even cut short the moments when the internet goes down.
-icrav03.rat is now no longer the file that blatantly refuses to be uncorrupted. It is now athrx.sys that refuses to be uncorrupted.
-SFCFix has been severely hampered. It now takes entire hours to run each stage as opposed to 15-30 minutes.
-The entire thing is running slower as a whole, including startup and updates. I'm running a defraggler to hopefully fix this though.

So I guess that the corrupted files are a symptom rather than a cause. Though I am completely curious as to what kind of issue persists like this even after a system refresh. I do hope it's repairable without having to visit a hardware store, I don't know any nearby and I don't feel it's worth the files the system sacrificed.

In all honesty, it may be easier to clean install due to the issues you're having with the refresh. Sometimes it's really not worth the hassle. Copy all the data you need to keep onto an external drive and then do a system reset/clean install.

I'd like you to run another SFC scan and upload the logs.

Export CBS folder


  1. Browse to the folder C:\Windows\Logs
  2. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
  3. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
  4. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  5. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.
  6. Attach this new file to your next post.

I can't upload the files for some reason. Judging by the max file size chart in the attachments menu, I think mine are way too large to fit in there (with the .txt at 438mb and the .zip at 108mb).

I've moved the files I want to keep into my D: drive. Somehow the system refresh didn't reach there at all, so I assume I can keep things there. But I'll do the factory reset only once I upload what the heck is going on with my computer.
 
Oh my god. I just ran into a technician by sheer coincidence when I went out for lunch, and he was working on the Ethernet cables on that floor. When I asked him, he mentioned there being a problem with the connection cables so it has been on the fritz recently.

Ever got that feeling when you found out you've been the victim of an especially cruel practical joke? Yeah....
That's good news though. If what the technician said is true, the connection should work normally by the end of the day. I'll keep you guys updated.
