Some Windows Update packages and driver installs consistently fail...

H!

Since the last month or so, my windows 10 work laptop (Windows 10 Enterprise 2016 LTSB; Version 1607 Build 14393.2430) has had trouble installing updates from microsoft update (Error Code: x80248007).

Also some drivers like the Graphics Card (intel integrated) fail to install with the error (Configuration Registry Database is Corrupt).

This is not universal though, some updates did get through just fine and some drivers have been updated and installed (connected a new mouse and had the HID drivers install, albeit with a bit of nudging in device manager).

Have executed SFC (which throws an error:
Code:
C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some
of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not
supported in offline servicing scenarios.

Hello and welcome!

Upload Drivers Hive

  1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config
  2. Right-click on the current DRIVERS file and select copy
Note: If you get an error that the file is in use, reboot your computer and then try again.
  3. Right-click on your Desktop and select paste
  4. Right-click on the DRIVERS file on your Desktop and select Send To -> Compressed (zipped) Folder
  5. Upload the zip from your Desktop to a file sharing service such as DropBox, OneDrive, SendSpace, etc. and include the link with your reply.

Thanks:

Step 1 - Replace Drivers Hive Manually

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download DRIVERS.rar and save to your desktop.
  2. Right-click on it and select Extract all.... Make sure the "Show extracted files when complete" is checked and click Extract.
  3. Now we have the DRIVERS file that we will be using to replace your current one.
  4. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config
  5. Right-click on the current DRIVERS file and select rename. Rename it to DRIVERS.bad.
Note: If you get an error that the file is in use, reboot your computer and then try again.
  6. Take the file from the Drivers folder on your desktop and paste it into C:\Windows\System32\config

The Device manager is now green across the board. Thank you!

Updates, unfortunately still fail. In the hopes of getting them moving, tried to do a manual download/install of the March Cumulative update for my OS, but it failed too.

SFC still reports corruption but is unable to fix. SFCFix still shows the same outputs as in my original post.

I suspect that you may need the new CBS.log, so here it is:

cbs.log in Google Drive

Thank you once again for the assist!

SoftwareManiac,

Apologies for this, Just checking in to see if you need any other files...

Amey.

Apologies for the delay! Did not have access to the laptop.

CBS.log attached.

Additionally, I have the option to have this PC upgraded from W10 2016 LTSB to W10 Pro. Would this be a viable option to pursue to resolve this?

Regards,

Amey.
