If you have 2 or more homes/residences and drive your personal vehicle(s) between them, be sure to check out your auto insurance policies.

For over 10 years, my car was registered and insured at my home in Pennsylvania, but I spent the vast majority of my time in New Jersey, so the car was primarily garaged in New Jersey. Nothing ever happened where the insurance company denied coverage, but I guess they certainly could have.

Every insurance policy I've ever applied for asked, quite pointedly, where the car was principally garaged.

Since rates vary very significantly depending on where the car is being routinely driven, and for good reason, I can understand why "place of use," which is far more accurately indicated by where a vehicle is principally garaged, is way more important to insurers than place of main legal residence.
