Hi there, I've been to this site once before and got great results from some very smart people. I would like to thank you for the support. I again come to you all with another i am experience with my computer. This time the issue is with skype. Now I connected with their customer service and they remoted in and got everything working. But once I connected my camera I wasn't able to get the mic to work, I was getting video .. but no mic. I checked the setting on the mic and camera and it was disabled. So I enabled it ... once I did , it crashed the system again. So now I'm back again with a crashing system every time I launch Skype.

There are no dumps in the attached zip file, so no BSODs.

If your MIC (audio) or camera/webcam requires 3rd party drivers - update them.

Be sure that you have the most recent version of Skype - Download Skype for Desktop

What OS are you running?

Regards. . .

jcgriff2

EDIT: I see you are running Windows 10 from the attached files.

Hi there, that's what is really strange.... once I plug in the Webcam it goes straight to the BSOD..... it states it gathering information and brings me right back to the login in screen. Usually the computer tells me on the splash screen that I suffered a castrophic error and if I would like to see the data. In this case that information is never presented. The computer just goes on as normal. The moment I plug the device in it goes right to the BSOD. There is one major change... it is no longer occurring when I enter skype. It now just happens when I plug the webcam in. I even cold booted left the webcam plugged in, the system will operate for about 60 seconds and then goes right back to BSOD.... I have to unplug out of the computer to stabilize the system I check the Webcam by installing it a different computer ... it has not problems installing into another computer that is using the same operating system. I ran the tool again just to make sure.

System:
Windows 10
ASUS P9x79PRO
32GB RAM
I7-4930K
850 watt PSU Gold
ASUS R9 390

I haven't looked at/analyzed the dump file - other techs might help you out with that (especially in the BSOD forum here at SysNative) - and jcgriff might visit here again with some insights, since you updated the error logs.

I imagine your first step was to check with the Skpe folks for their recommendations. I suppose we should include their troubleshooting tips:
Why does Skype for Windows desktop crash my computer?

Of course, they recommend uninstalling Skype and reinstalling the latest version as one of the first steps, and updating drivers (as jcgriff2 has recommended), among a few other tips worth exploring.

ALSO - for testing - I recommend:
1) Uninstall any drivers related to the webcam/mic. All. Do not reinstall them manually (yet)...
2) Uninstall driver.max (The last two versions do more harm than good, especially in Windows 10)
3) Uninstall Asus AI Suite II (Check with Asus if your board can run AI Suite III, which would be more compatible with Windows 10 -- I don't imagine that Suite II is completely compatible with Windows 10 ... personally, I consider the Asus utilities to be just awful in general, and avoid them like the plague)
4) Uninstall all current audio drivers (Windows 10 compliant drivers should reinstall on the next startup).
5) Uninstall your USB drivers from Device Manager (Windows 10 compliant drivers should reinstall on the next startup)
6) Uninstall Glary Utilities Pro (too many utilites at once! ... you can always re-install it after troubleshooting your current issues)
7) Disable Windows Defender (I'm surprised it's running concurrently with MalwareBytes - Mbam should have disabled it during installation ... from your background processes, it looks like you have a "full" version of "realtime" Malwarebytes - yes?)
8) It appears an nVidia "Stereoscopic 3D USB" driver is running - NvStUSB.sys ... why?
9) Search for & scan "berkelieum.exe" in "THIS PC" with Malwarebytes - see if it is identified as malware. Set Malwarebytes to scan for PUPs if it isn't already (PUPs = Probably Unwanted Programs .. sometimes "possibly")....
10) Uninstall FB Checker ...(you can try re-installing it later ... the last version is from mid-2014, so it's Windows 10 compatibility is in question)
11) If you have a Saitek Cyborg gaming controller, or a R.A.T. gaming mouse, there might be a conflict with your webcam USB drivers and your USB gaming device drivers. Wouldn't be the first time. Remove the device while testing the webcam problem. Remove its drivers, too, as needed.
12) Not sure your AQVOX USB drivers are completely Windows 10 compatible .. still looking into this... For testing, try removing them.
13) If you don't use RAPTR, uninstall it. It's running all the time, from system startup.

That's my "lucky 13" list for now. Nothing is going away that you can't add back in later, should any be deemed necessary. Once you've uninstalled everything in the list above, connect your webcam/mic and let Windows Update find and install whatever it wants to. Test for stability.

Once the system proves stable and you can use both Skype & the Webcam without crashing - you can add back in some of these - one at a time - and test for stability. I think you can do without a good many of them.

Good Luck!

[P.S. ... you have DropBox, Google Drive, and OneDrive all running in the background ... if you aren't using all of them, uninstall-or-disable the ones you don't need. ... Oh, and you might want to do without Asus "live update" - if you leave it installed, it will likely try to put back much of the utilities that I suggested removing in the first place]

[late edit: Please uninstall Skype as the first step before going to the next 13. Only reinstall Skype after all the others are taken care of first. ... I should have mentioned the "order of operation" better ... ]

Hello, Thank you for the great feed back and taking the time to review the information. I have gone through the check list and have started making the adjustment in terms of programs start ups and applications that are not very good. I have resolved the issue. Here is what happen so that in the event a similar situation arises you have the information available.

Just a small disclaimer , I am not a super techy guy so if you notice a somewhat simplified explanation I apologize in advance. Here is what I know : The issue was directly related to the drivers for ASMedia Technology Inc and their ASMedia USB 3.1 Host Drivers , what I needed to do was clear out the newest drivers and install this older driver "USB3_Beta_AsMedia_Win8_64_Z114100" ... once I cleared out the old driver .... my USB 3.0 ports came back to life and my computer had it's functionality back to include Skype abilities with Camera I have not yet experience a BSOD since the change in driver. What a mess!!! I couldn't believe it !

On Sat 2/27/2016 4:43:45 AM GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\WINDOWS\memory.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: asmtxhci.sys (asmtxhci+0x1E4D1)
Bugcheck code: 0x3B (0xC0000005, 0xFFFFF8012408E4D1, 0xFFFFD00024355D20, 0x0)

Bug check description: This indicates that an exception happened while executing a routine that transitions from non-privileged code to privileged code.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: asmtxhci.sys (ASMEDIA XHCI Host Controller Driver, ASMedia Technology Inc).
Google query: ASMedia Technology Inc SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION

Glad you tracked down the problem driver - very nice work!

(And, hopefully, slimming down some of the things in the list should give your system a little performance & stability boost)...

Cheers!

Hi there, followed most of your instructions..... Also added a few other questions. Thanks again :)

ALSO - for testing - I recommend:
1) Uninstall any drivers related to the webcam/mic. All. Do not reinstall them manually (yet)...

2) Uninstall driver.max (The last two versions do more harm than good, especially in Windows 10) Wow,, I just paid for the 2 year subscription !!! OUCH

Can you recommend a good CPU overclocking software for dummies like me who don’t know what they are doing but want to over clock the hardware on their computers?

4) Uninstall all current audio drivers (Windows 10 compliant drivers should reinstall on the next startup).
Done

5) Uninstall your USB drivers from Device Manager (Windows 10 compliant drivers should reinstall on the next startup)
Done
6) Uninstall Glary Utilities Pro (too many utilites at once! ... you can always re-install it after troubleshooting your current issues)
Done
7) Disable Windows Defender (I'm surprised it's running concurrently with MalwareBytes - Mbam should have disabled it during installation ... from your background processes, it looks like you have a "full" version of "realtime" Malwarebytes - yes?)
YES it is a full version

8) It appears an nVidia "Stereoscopic 3D USB" driver is running - NvStUSB.sys ... why?
I have no idea what Nvidia Stereo 3D USB driver is running…. I recently switched from Nvidia 770 to AMD R9 390….

9) Search for & scan "berkelieum.exe" in "THIS PC" with Malwarebytes - see if it is identified as malware. Set Malwarebytes to scan for PUPs if it isn't already (PUPs = Probably Unwanted Programs .. sometimes "possibly")....

Berkelium.exe file information
The process known as Chromium belongs to software TVersity Media Server Pro or TVersity Media Server or yes Streamer by The Chromium Authors. I own TVERSITY

10) Uninstall FB Checker ...(you can try re-installing it later ... the last version is from mid-2014, so it's Windows 10 compatibility is in question),
Couldn’t find this file in my system… it’s not in the “control panel uninstall”, where do I find

Done
11) If you have a Saitek Cyborg gaming controller, or a R.A.T. gaming mouse, there might be a conflict with your webcam USB drivers and your USB gaming device drivers. Wouldn't be the first time. Remove the device while testing the webcam problem. Remove its drivers, too, as needed.
Issue was fixed … so I don’t think the conflict occurred here.

12) Not sure your AQVOX USB drivers are completely Windows 10 compatible .. still looking into this... For testing, try removing them.
Since the issue has been resolved … I left these in as they are operating fine with these drivers installed.

13) If you don't use RAPTR, uninstall it. It's running all the time, from system startup.
I removed it

Looks like you've been through the list pretty well - and since most things are running OK now, you don't have to be quite as thorough about testing without certain apps and plug-ins. Glad that your berkelium file was legit (some malware likes to masquerade with that name). As far as overclocking goes, you could check on gaming sites for your favorite games, and see what works for users with rigs like your own. And - since your main issue doesn't seem to have been linked to the Asus utilities, you could reinstall the ones for overclocking, and see if things remain stable. Generally, what I hear from gamers is that they start with as little an overclock as they can - and if that's stable, they go up another notch. Bit by bit, eventually you find out how far your rig can go before it gets unacceptably unstable.

Thanks for letting us know all the details. Enjoy your system, it should last a good long while (and stay pretty darned fast, too).
