I don't see the Simplix UpdatePack7R2 mentioned a lot on this forum. Did a search & someone used it a few years ago & that's about it.

It's a Russian website so you might need to translate it.
https://blog.simplix.info/update7/UpdatePack7R2-19.11.15.exe

It is mentioned on other websites & supposed to have all the updates since Win 7 released up to date. It has the security and non security updates but not the telemetry and tracking ones.

Anyone here familiar with it & have any comments about using it?
Thanks

Hi!

I used it a while back and I didn't like it. It can install unnecessary updates which can later cause issues with the Windows Update system, so I would recommend sticking to the good old Windows Update system that was integrated by MS, because it does a fantastic job of detecting and applying the necessary updates.

If you absolutely must use a utility, try something reputable like: WSUS Offline Update - Update Microsoft Windows and Office without an Internet connection

Thanks for the reply & information.

A year or so ago I did a clean install of Window 7 on a new SSD and had a lot of difficulties downloading and/or installing all the updates. I was downloading & installing them in chronological order & frequently restarting the PC. But it always seemed there was a critical update that was needed in order to proceed with further updates. I have pages & pages of notes on what I did. I was trying to avoid that time consuming nightmare. But of course don't want to create worse problems.

I took a quick look at the WSUS Offline Update that you mentioned & will go back over it again. Does it leave out any non-critical updates?

What do you mean by leave out? I would rely only on Windows Update an its system.

Sometimes Windows updates have recommended, but not important, updates such as ones dealing with foreign languages. I don't install those & would not want WSUS Offline Update to install them.

I believe you can pick and choose with WSUS Offline, but like I said, I'd stick to Windows Update.

You have me leaning toward doing a proper Windows Update. Hopefully I won't have to fight my way through it like I previously did.

Appears I need to install the latest Servicing Stack Update (KB4531786) and then the Convenience Rollup Update (KB3125574). Does that sound correct, or do I need an earlier version of the Servicing Stack Update in order to get things going?

SSU comes before anything and everything.

I understand, but I was asking if the latest Servicing Stack Update (KB4531786) should be used. I looked at several SSUs on Microsoft's website & they all get replaced by something & end up with KB4531786. But that didn't work & gave error 0x800b0109 "A certificate chain processed, but terminated in a toor certificate which is not trusted by the trust provider." I tried twice with the same results.

Did some Googling & most things say to check for malware or corrupt files. I'm using a new HDD with only Win7, SP1, & the mobo software installed. Googling indicates SSU KB3020369 is used in conjunction with the Convenience Rollup Update. MS indicates that was replaced by KB3177467, which eventually ends up at KB4531786. But I tried KB3177467 & it installed & so did the Convenience Rollup Update.

I know this is drifting off-topic, but so far doing a proper update has me concerned with what lies ahead with all the other updates.

What is being detected by Windows Update?

I don't know.

But SSU KB3177467 got me most of the way through the updates. I did the updates in batches based on the year. I just didn't want to have a problem doing 2019 updates before the 2016 updates.

If the Convenience Rollup Update supposed to take care of updates until April 2016, why did some updates from 2014 & 2015 show up when Windows searched for updates?

I only had a few more updates to install when KB4516065 (2019-9 monthly rollup) failed with error code 80092004. I thought maybe time to install the latest SSU KB4531786, but it still would not install. Did some searching & people were using other SSUs. However going by the dates, KB4531786 wasn't available when people were using these other SSUs. I tried SSU KB4490628 & it installed.

Went back to install the Sept rollup but KB4530734 (2019-12 rollup) came up & it did install.

It looks like all is good. Still don't have that latest SSU KB4531786 installed but maybe it will be needed for Jan 2020 rollup. Guess I'll find out in a few days.
