I believe I'm sending you the appropriate data;

A little more background:

Win 10 Pro 1809 10.0.17763.678 (can't get later versions to install - but that's another issue)

Have run
Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup (took a very long time but completed successfully)
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth (component store is repairable)
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth (No component store corruption detected - success)
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth (The restore operation completed successfully. The operation completed successfully.)
sfc /scannow (Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.)
* the attached sfcdetails.txt file is from this run
SFCFix.exe (bombed - the attached SFCFix.txt fil is from this run)

Yesterday: I have a .iso file (1809 10.0.17763.1) from heidoc.net that I've mounted and referenced with
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /source:WIM:M:\sources\install.wim:1

TIA, Doug

My sincere apologies - your instructions are perfect - I've been working on this (the larger one) problem for too long, getting sloppy! Sorry again.

I haven't told you about the larger problem - trying to attack it one step at a time.

Doug

PS - Croatia, We rented a place down the coast from Split a few years back, first visited Dubrovnik (and the entire Dalmatian coast) in 1969!

No worries! I hope you enjoyed Croatia!

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Wow - you got back fast - Thanks!! (yes, We've enjoyed all our visits to Croatia)

Here's the data you asked for.

I also ran a small script to simplify the cbs log, don't know if this helps you, but it's attached.

TIA, Doug

1. I wasn't completely clear about what you wanted with the HTML tags ("put
Code:
tags around the log to break up the text."). The SFCFix.txt file looked pretty straightforward, though.

2. I've been looking over the cbs log - GRIEF - where is all that junk coming from??? Problem with my 1809 10.0.17763.678??

3. Is this better attacked by finding out why the latest Windows 10 updates won't load (they get to 80-90%, then back out)??

TIA, Doug

Attachments are perfectly fine and I prefer them, so it's fine. :-)

Something is corrupt somewhere. I will provide the next set of files and then try the upgrade to the latest version.

If it's of any use - I've put my computer specs (copied from Belarc) in my profile.

My immediate target is to get a clean 1809 system so I can replace my win10 image file - the present one is getting a bit old. Then i'll at least have a fallback if my system blows up again (when I try upgrading beyond 1809).

This will not fix everything, but will fix one file that is critical for the upgrade to go through.

It's 11 p.m. :-)

Let's try upgrading:

  1. Download the Media Creation Tool and save this to your desktop. Go ahead and run this as well. Note: Click the Download tool now button when you get to this link.
  2. Accept the License Agreement
  3. Download the ISO file to your desktop.
  4. Double-click on the ISO and then run the setup to try and upgrade your machine.

Update - Results - Success

I'm now on 1903 18362.295!

Just got back up - don't know about system stability yet.

Will try the DISM/sfc checks as soon as I can.

I'm leaving early Sun through Thursday, so may not have time to pursue these computer adventures until late next week. There are a number of other items that I need to clean up and will likely get back to "you" - will post a separate thread though.

Consider this closed - THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!!! (Hope the screaming didn't wake you up;))

Cheers, Doug

Hope you are not still up! Thought I'd give you an update, though

Ran (in order)
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
sfc /scannow (twice - both with errors)

then
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /source:WIM:M:\sources\install.wim:1 (pointing to the mounted latest iso file)

then
sfc /scannow

WOW!!! Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.!!!!

YEA!!!

Now I'll create a new Window Image.

Massive problems

1. Many BSOD'd
2. Lost MS Office
3. About 30% of the time I can get back up running
4. Have deleted an Asus updating program, also deleted Malwarebytes (to keep from running at start-up)
5. Ran the Windows mem test - No pbs detected.
6. BSOD's occur randomly, on startup, just sitting doing nothing
7. Have downloaded and installed on a flash drive MemTest86 - will run as soon as I post this
8. have a list of my non MS drivers will send (***NOTE*** I changed the extension from .csv to .txt in order to attach)
9 Ran FRST program - results attached

***ADDITIONAL NOTE*** No need for you to rush on this - I may not be able to do anything on my end until 30Aug19 (next Friday)

will run the other mem test now
starting to sound like a random hardware pb (random cosmic ray strikes:confused:)

Cheers, Doug
