I have been trying to install the latest windows updates to my desktop and I continuously get error (0x800700c1). I have tried everything from sfc, DISM, installing the Windows Media tool, , changing the restore point, and even downloading 3rd party software's to see if they could resolve the issue. However all this and more has still not fixed my issue. I have just stumbled upon this forum and it looks like there are users on here who could greatly assist me.

I went through the posting steps and attempted to use the SFCFix tool , after sfc and DISM both failed again, and the tool crashes every time I run it.

Could anyone assist me in fixing the error I have attached the crash text file.

Thank you to anyone who is willing to reach out.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

  • Open Windows Explorer and browse to the C:\Windows\Logs folder.
  • Right-click on the CBS folder and choose Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Now the message will appear, "Windows cannot create the Compressed (zipped) Folder here. Do you want it to be placed on the desktop instead?"
  • Click on the Yes button here.

  • Attach the file CBS.zip to your next reply.
