SFCFix hangs after DISM finishes

Windows 8.1 updated up to KB3000850, which fails. Notifications (in general) fail. AV is BitDefender TS--up to date. Run Secunia PSI--only flag is XML 4.0 which I need for Corel.
Started out scanning for malware. I'm a SysAdmin, so I have an extensive toolkit--Gmer, MBAM, current rescue linux boot disks, TCPView, rootkitrevealer, and many more.
Found nothing at all.

Have the usual cluster of symptoms. Update won't notify, KB3000850 won't install, sfc finds corruption it cannot fix (yes, the MSTDC.log cannot be fixed), TOAST is disabled and the Metro Apps open and immediately drop to the task bar.
Per the instructions for this forum, I downloaded and ran SFCFix.exe. Several hours ago... in fact, its still "running", with 0% cpu and 0 disk or network activity. Still holding 5.4MB RAM. No log file.
Finished DISM. Component store corruption was repaired, though it mostly says that (well, in the last 30-40 times I've run it), though it does sometimes not find anything.

Tried to upload CBS logs... probably too large. Will use Method 2.

Thanks

Got SFCFix.txt log after terminating the SFCFix.exe process.
Will try method 2 again, since I don't see any uploads, and we lost power while I was trying to upload earlier.

Hello and welcome

The file doesn't seem to extracting for me.

Export CBS folder

  1. Right click on the
    aa922834-ed43-40f1-8830-d5507badb56c_39.jpg
    button
  2. Click on File Explorer
  3. Double-click on the C: drive, scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
  4. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
  5. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
  6. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
  7. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  8. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.
  9. Please rename this file to CBS_{Insert forum username here}_{insert todays Date here}.zip For example "CBS_Go The Power_1803.Zip"
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to you next post please upload via Dropbox or One Drive

Great! That got Update going again, and the dreaded kb3000850 finally installed successfully.

But metro apps still don't open. Notifications (TOAST, network, etc) were turned off, though not showing "Enabled" in group policy shut off, I turned them back on by disabling the appropriate keys. When I try to reset the Store I get:
___________________________
[Window Title]
ms-windows-store:PurgeCaches

[Content]
ms-windows-store:PurgeCaches

The app didn't start.

I'm getting a 10010 error in the system log:

<The server Windows.Store did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.>

and 5973 in the application log:

<Activation of app winstore_cw5n1h2txyewy!Windows.Store failed with error: The app didn't start.
See the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log for additional information.>

Suggestions?

Glad to hear the update installed for you :)

Can you please go into C:\windows\system32\winevt\logs can you see Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational.evxt? If yes please add it into a zip file and attach to your next post.

Please go Here and download Process Monitor -> Save the file to your desktop.

Double click on Process Monitor -> Press Yes on the UAC -> you should now have a Filter box appeared -> press Ok

Now click on File -> Capture Events (make sure this is ticked)

Try and open a few store apps, once they have failed click on File -> Save -> save the file to your desktop.

Now go to your desktop and you should see a file called Logfile.pml -> please but it in a Zip file -> and upload it for me to have a read. As the file is going to be quite big please use Dropbox
