was trying to repair packages resparse ponts for a few months, and as long as it was still working i let it be.
sfc found no corrupt files.
i started having trouble with windows defender and kept trying fixes for it. finally (and i'm not sure what i did) the windows defender app was "repaired" and "reset" etc; and then was somehow uninstalled and i could not open the "Windows Security" window.
And now it's gone entirely. i checked sfc (as i have all the way through) and for the first time since everything began there were corruptions. some of which were not corrected. i tried again with no change. i started using sfcfix with these results:
---------------------------------------------------
SFCFix version 3.0.2.1 by niemiro.
