I have been having issues with Windows Update, Windows Defender and Windows store not updating, but now today, after trying some of the fixing advice, I can only work on my desktop for Windows 8.1. Nothing else is working, though thankfully I did manage to get back online with this machine. Any suggestions for my specific computer??

Hi,

From the SFCFix log (which formatted strangely, but that's alright), it seems that SFCFix repaired the corruption it found. I can check the logs myself though to make sure everything is repaired.

SFC Scan

  1. Press the Windows Key on your keyboard and X to open up the Power User Tasks Menu
  2. Click (or tap) Command Prompt (admin)
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue (approximately 15 minutes)

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Ok, so that took a LOT longer than 15 minutes to create, but now the text file won't upload. All I get when I click upload for the file is the spinning circle of trying but no progress. Any ideas? Or do you want me to copy and paste a portion of the log instead?? It's almost 10:00pm where I am right now, so if this comes shortly I'll finish it tonight, otherwise I will have to work on it further in the morning. Thanks for your help!

Hi,

DISM

  1. Press the Windows Key on your keyboard and X to open up the Power User Tasks Menu
  2. Click (or tap) Command Prompt (admin)
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

Wait for this to finish before you continue (approximately 15 minutes)

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.
