Hello!
I have been having a problem where I open the wireless networks from the bottom right icon. As soon as I try to connect to my network it flashes for a split second that it's starting to connect and then closes the window, never connecting, but still showing networks are available.

SFCFix says my wlansvc.dll is corrupted. I've tired replacing it with 3 different dlls I've found online, 2 of which causes explorer.exe to hardly work, and one just shows a red x on the wireless networks icons.

Here is the SFCFix log:

Hello and welcome!

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

    Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Afterwards, everything should work.

I have ran the script and restarted my computer. I'm still getting the same thing where the window closes out by itself. Faster than I can even type the password in. If I copy paste the password it closes out before it can connect.

Here is the contents of the SFCFix.txt:

The file has been replaced.

Please try the following:

GSmartControl
Follow the instructions below to check your SMART status with GSmartControl:

  • Download the portable version of GSmartControl and save it on your Desktop;
  • Extract the zip file to your Desktop. Open the folder gsmartcontrol-1.1.3-win64 which should be located on your Desktop and double-click gsmartcontrol.exe to launch the program.
  • Identify your drive in the list (if recognized by the tool), and hover your mouse over it.
  • You should see something called: SMART status. It will either read: Enabled, in which case you should do the following:
  • Double-click on it to bring up its window (usually you'll find your drive by its size or its brand name);
  • Go to the Self-Tests tab, then select Extended Self-test in the Test type drop-down list and click on Execute (this test can take a few hours to complete);
  • Once the test is over, the results will be displayed at the bottom of the window. Please copy and paste these results in your next reply or take a screenshot;
  • Also, go in the Attributes tab and if you have any entries highlighted in red or pink, take a screenshot of the GSmartControl window and attach it in your next reply;
  • Please note: If the SMART Status reads: Unsupported, stop and let me know.

Here is also a video showing the problem I have been running into.

I also forgot to mention in my original post, this started happening after doing a windows update, as well as updating all my drivers. And unfortunately I'm running low on hard drive space so there isn't a system restore date from before I updated.

*EDIT*
just saw your latest post. I will try that now.

*EDIT 2*
Running the test now

I've ran the test, says it's completed without error. I also ran it on my second hard drive (which has the "users" folder on it), which also completed without error. Here are the screenshots and output text files as well

It is yes, but I've re downloaded the newest one and reinstalled it just to be sure. Still having the same problem. I've also noticed in the REALTEK Lan utility that it doesn't wanna show any of the options/settings of the adapter when I click on it, so I can't even try and connect to the network using the REALTEK utility.

I've also installed the drivers and tested the adapter on my laptop to rule out the problem being with the adapter itself. It's working fine on my laptop, I'm actually making the post using it right now. The REALTEK utility functions fine on my laptop with this adapter.

Thanks.

Please do the following:

Step#1 - FRST Scan

1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Right-click FRST64.exe and click Run as Administrator to run it as administrator. When the tool opens, click Yes to disclaimer.
3. Please ensure you place a check mark in the Addition.txt check box at the bottom of the form before running (if not already checked).
4. Press Scan button.
5. It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should now be the desktop)
6. Please attach the log back here.
7. Another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST64.exe) will be generated Please also attach that along with the FRST.txt in your reply.

:step1:
ckscanner.jpg
Scan with CKScanner

Download CKScanner by askey127 and save it to your desktop.

  • Right-click on
    ckscanner.jpg
    icon and select
    RunAsAdmin.jpg
    Run as Administrator to start the tool.
  • click Search For Files.
  • When finished, click Save List To File.
  • Remember to run this tool once only, if not asked to run it again.
Please copy and paste the content of CKFiles.txt into your next reply.

I tried a couple years ago back when the windows 10 update was free for windows 7 users through windows update. Every time it failed to update, I would try periodically for months. Now the free update has expired.

This may just be a good excuse to completely upgrade my pc finally. I have been running the same system for about 10 years now.

The upgrade is still free...

We can try it and diagnose it if needed.

  1. Download the Media Creation Tool and save this to your desktop. Go ahead and run this as well. Note: Click the Download tool now button when you get to this link.
  2. Accept the License Agreement
  3. Download the ISO file to your desktop.
  4. Double-click on the ISO and then run the setup to try and upgrade your machine.

We want to get the ISO so that you don't have to keep downloading which can take hours.

I'm downloading it now, will I need to mount the ISO with a virtual drive program such as PowerISO? Or would selecting the USB drive option have been better?

Well it did not work unfortunately.. I'm not exactly sure why, but this is the only message I got this morning when I left it running overnight. It was currently in the installing phase when I went to bed.

This morning I tried again, this time keeping an eye on it while it installed. It stayed at 31% for a while so I went to go make breakfast, when I came back I had the same message again.

A few things to mention, I have 80gb of free hard drive space, no cd/DVD in the drive, and I've unplugged all USB devices that could somehow interfere with it.

Also the windows 10 installer mentions that my computer may restart during the installation process, but I've noticed it doesn't appear to have restarted.
