Hello, Sysnative, and thanks for any help in advance. Also sorry for my English, being not my native language:smile9:.
Currently I'm facing the following problem:
Some days ago when using my laptop I noticed a significant drop in performance. According to the task manager a process called 'Windows modules installer' was using about 30-40% of the CPU and 100% of the hard drive. The made me think of some malware or Windows Update Center issues. I have checked my comp with various altimalware utilities, namely Malwarebytes, DrWeb Cureit, Windows Defender, and no malware has been detected so far.
After that I used Windows troubleshooting utility and a utility, downloaded from the relevant topic on the Microsoft site, WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab. These utilities reported the following issues (respectively):
1) Potential error of the databese 0x80070490; corrupted components of the WUC.
2) 0x80070057 (2015-05-16-T-03_17_57); service registration missing or corrupt, Security settings missing, problems with latest updates.
Both utilities claim to have repaired the issues, however after reboot they detect the said issues again. Generally, I have set the Windows Update Center to automitic search for the updates and no new updates are present or waiting for installation.
Finally, I tried running the SFC, DISM and SFCFix, following the instructions of the forum. SFC detects some corrupted files but cannot repair them (please find attached the CBS Log). SFCFix was also unable to fix those files (the SFCFix log attached). I am not sure, whether those 3 files are actually responsible for updates, but anyway:smile9:
My system config is Intel Core i7-4510U CPU @ 2.00GHz, Windows 8.1 64-bit. My Windows was pre-installed and I have no Windows-DVD for the SFC to manually replace the corrupted files.
Looking forward to your reply.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. Your English is actually very good so no worries. This should get your corruption all fixed up. Please do the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file SFCFix.zip and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Step#2 - Verify Corruption is fixed
1. Right-click on the Start
w8start.png
button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
sfc /scannow

3. Once it finishes, copy and paste the following into the command-prompt window and press Enter.
copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"

4. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Please upload CBS.txt to this thread

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Hello, Brian, sorry for late reply and thank You very much for help. Unfortunately, I cannot test your solution right now, because my SFC-report is perfect. However, I believe I am going to have a chance to use the script soon and post the results. I've been experimenting with the issue and found out the following: recovery of the system to a previous check-point solves the problem with system files, but soon they became corrupt again (files called 'telemetry' and 'utc...'). I believe, this can happen due to the Windows Update Center, downloading corrupt files from Microsoft or whatever else. I managed to solve the issue by consecutive running SFC (just for the sake of checking: corrupt files not repaired) - DISM (standard command) - SFC (checking again, clean report with everything fixed). The whole sequence was done without reboot and and with automatic windows updating disabled (I still had the Internet connection on). Now I'm going to create another check-point, manually download upadates and see, if something goes wrong again.
