SFCFix Corrupt Files .NET System.Web.Extensions.dll MOD: Please move to correct sub

Win 7 pro x64 SP1
.NET Framework went berserk for some reason. This is a clients system so have no idea what was done or why.

Apps relying on .NET and the System.Web.Extensions.dll were not working
The Turn windows features on/off list was empty
I couldn't do a remove or repair install on .net 4.7.2 just encountered a fatal error
Windows update was stuck with 2 updates holding and one was for .NET 3.5 --- 4.7.2

I was able to finally get all versions of .NET back in place and they seem to be working. I used the .NET installation verification tool which concluded all those versions are in place and working.
Windows update worked and all updates installed no errors
Windows Features List works again
I cannot test the clients apps as they are network installed apps and I need to be in their network to run them

Now the issue remaining is
SFC Scan shows corruption that is not repairable
SFCFix shows corrupted files

SURT shows no errors found and passes

I don't want to take this desktop back to the client just to find the apps still don't run do to system.web.extensions issues. Is this red herring of some sort? Everything else works and the verification tool shows all versions of .NET are installed and working.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

MOD - Please re-locate this thread, I just realized it would be categorized under "Windows Update" in the forums... sorry.
I was thinking it was best here since it wasn't directly related to windows update but it does involve SFC.

I took the system back to the job site and once it was back on the clients network all applications worked again as expected. This tells me I have resolved the issue but SFC still shows those 3 files corrupted. I don't know enough about the inner workings of the SFC/DISM/SURT to know 100% but I suspect when I made it replace the original missing manifests/files using the package downloaded directly from the update catalog that it might have messed up a checksum or indexing system of some sort. So it thinks those files are corrupt when it checks them against whatever system.

I Will be educating myself a bit more today on the actual SFC/DISM/SURT functions.

I can tell you the applications that were not working are now working again. One of the applications that was failing popped up the error message specifying the exact dll -- System.Web.Extensions.dll
Which corresponds to the logs files I was getting during SFC/DISM/SURT etc.

Once I got it back in their network, errors were gone, all programs work again. I am just stuck with it showing those 3 files still corrupted, yet everything works. So I left it alone. That user has reported no issues. So they could still be corrupted but I am fairly sure the applications are using them right now without issue. I could always be wrong too though. I just know its working now and I didn't have to a do a clean install.

Oh definitely upload the fix. At most I can pick it apart and learn something from it. Since the SFCFix Tool doesn't seem to have an in-depth guide for scripted fixes, I have nothing but a guess as to how they work. I am curious to see if I am correct as I have never seen one of the fixes yet.

Educated guess on my end is the fix is just a folder with proper structure including manifests, dlls, etc that is packaged into a zip. When renamed SFCFix.zip and ran with the SFCFix Tool it uses those files to replace damaged ones. Claims files, replaces, reverts permissions, checks again, done etc.

That's correct! I'm going to need this:

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a file sharing service and just provide the link here.
