Hello!!

My computer froze recently during step 3 of 3 of a Windows update (3 days) and since then I've been having some decent issues with the poor thing.
It will boot normally but nothing will run aside from explorer so unfortunately that rules out running SURT in the normal manner.
I've used Checkdisk, SFC /scannow, DISM /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth and SFCFix. Though these and by sourcing files from another machine with the same OS and architecture, I've been able to reduce the number of errors dramatically but am now firmly stuck on the last few!
Interestingly some of the errors seem to be centred around KB976933 which from what little I can find appears to be an update that Microsoft had a number of issues with and perhaps retracted it as a result. It's no longer listed on their online Windows update catalog and although associated files may be present on both of the two Windows 7 machines I have access to, neither list it as an installed update...
To top it off the issue I have is with the nb-NO language version of part of this KB which amusingly my serviceable donor Windows 7 PC does not have!

I've attached the log files and any assistance is greatly appreciated!!

Looking good. Are there any remaining issues ?

Just tried a normal restart and unfortunately she's still worse for wear. Essentially starts up and gets to the desktop but the majority of the services fail to start, such as MSE and anything relating to networking.
SFCFix.txt is still fairly convinced there's 8 CBS & SFC total detected corruptions but I'm starting to fear they may not be the issue.
Interestingly a few days ago I did manage to get it started up perfectly! It was just after I'd been into Windows Features and turned off Windows Virtual PC in an attempt to eliminate that as an issue. (not that I'm even using that feature)
It took bloody ages to boot, saying it was preparing windows before saying it was undoing changes it had made, then booted to the desktop with all things working normally. I was able to go into windows update and start installing updates, but ever since I restarted from there we've been back to stage one and I haven't been able to hit the desktop in a functional manner again..

Lets start with a disk check first.

ChkDsk Scan
  • Click on Start - All programs - Accessories.
  • Rightclick on Command-prompt and select Run as administrator.
  • When command prompt opens, typ chkdsk into it, then press enter.
  • Wait for this to complete.
  • Download ListChkdskResult.exe by SleepyDude and save it on your desktop.
  • Rightclick
    58a60a47ed1bd-ListChkdskResult.PNG
ListChkdskResult.exe and select Run as administrator. Notepad will open the file ListChkdskResult.txt on completion. (The file ListChkdskResult.txt can be found on your desktop.)
  • Copy and paste this in your next reply.

Cheers PeterJ, well I ran chkdsk, and interestingly it found issues! Even though it's ran previously without finding anything. See attached

The following might take several hours to complete. You can do it overnight if you like.

Click on Start - All Programs - Accessories.
Right-click on Command-prompt and select Run as administrator.
When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, press enter afterwards.

Code:
chkdsk c: /f /r
At the question "Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)", press Y.
Restart the system.

Do not press any key during the restart. This will allow CHKDSK to start.
Wait for this to complete. Please note that this may take several hours. Let it run even if it looks like the process has stopped!
On completion, the system will restart automatically.
