Hi,
happy new year 1st of all. With my computer however it stared no too promising.

SFC /scannow has found various issues. Refer to the attached log file.

I tried to fix on my own but SCIFix does not work:

Welcome to SFCFix by niemiro and sysnative.com.

Checking for updates . . .

Failed to check for updates. This may be due to an internet connection problem
or a temporary availability failure of the update servers. Please ensure that
you are using the latest version of the program before continuing . . .

Windows Update does not work either. It reports: Code 8024000E Unknown Error.

I became aware of these problems because all of a sudden various programms report that dll's could not be started such as:

api-ms-win-downlevel-user32-l1-1-0.dll

This dll for example is also reported in the CBS.log (same as others):

... Could not reproject corrupted file [ml:520{260},l:46{23}]"\??\C:\Windows\System32"\[l:76{38}]"api-ms-win-downlevel-user32-l1-1-0.dll"; source file in store is also corrupted

Any suggestion on what I can do?

Many thanks in advance.

Erik

Hello Erik and welcome to Sysnative forums :)

I hope you had a good new year.

Now lets get started repairing these files:
Code:
\SystemRoot\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-d..evelapisets-windows_31bf3856ad364e35_7.1.7601.16492_none_e249fd3fed68cb81\api-ms-win-downlevel-user32-l1-1-0.dll

\SystemRoot\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-downlevelapisets-shell_31bf3856ad364e35_7.1.7601.16492_none_2b20f882c1c0eaca\api-ms-win-downlevel-shell32-l1-1-0.dll

\SystemRoot\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-downlevelapisets-base_31bf3856ad364e35_7.1.7601.16492_none_1ed670cbaddb31b7\api-ms-win-downlevel-advapi32-l1-1-0.dll
\SystemRoot\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-downlevelapisets-base_31bf3856ad364e35_7.1.7601.16492_none_1ed670cbaddb31b7\api-ms-win-downlevel-advapi32-l2-1-0.dll
\SystemRoot\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-downlevelapisets-base_31bf3856ad364e35_7.1.7601.16492_none_1ed670cbaddb31b7\api-ms-win-downlevel-normaliz-l1-1-0.dll

I am really hoping that SFCFix will work here, as it will be a pain not to use it.

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

Good morning,
and thanks for your support.

Drag and drop of the SCIFix.zip on SCIFix.exe didn't work on my damaged system.
But starting
SCIFix.exe with SCIFix.zip as parameter sees to work. Here is the log file:

Code:
SFCFix version 2.4.1.0 by niemiro.

Awesome work, SFCFix has replaced the files as it should :)

Lets do a scan with SFC /SCANNOW to make sure everything is cleared up.

Your welcome, Erik. It looks like SFC has repaired the last of the files.

Just to double check can you please just run SFC /SCANNOW one last time please, once complete upload a new CBS.log.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex,
I ran SFC /SCANNOW again (no problems were found) and put the file here:

http://www.volvotreter.de/tmp/cbs.txt

The system seems to be fine except for to things:

1) desktop gadgets refuse to open - just a small white rectangle is shown:

Bild 082.png

2) doubleclicking an url opens the url as text

Bild 084.png

as always: many many thanks.

Erik

I played around with the system some more and found Internet Explorer refuses to start

(The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000022). Click OK to close the application).

:huh::huh::huh:

and even more mess: control\devices and sound do not show any installed devices ...

Hi Alex,
your're right, once logged on the hidden admin account:

  • IE starts up correctly
  • control\devices and sound shows devices correctly
  • desktop gadgets show up corretly

Your're the man!
:thumbsup2: :thumbsup2: :thumbsup2:

Now, can this be fixed?

Regards. Erik

Hi Erik,

That is good news!

When you use the computer are you logging in with a local account or using a Microsoft account? A Microsoft account is generally your email.

Alex

Hi Alex,
I'm logging in with a local accout only. I do not even have a MS account.

Erik

Hi Erik,

From here it would look like the best option would be to migrate to the new profile and start using that one instead of the old one. The symptoms described I normally see from a corrupt proifle.

Alex

Hi Alex,
this is bad news. Any suggestions on how to migrate to a new profile the best way?

Regards. Erik

Hi Erik,

It would be best to leave all the settings on the old corrupt profile and just transfer over your important files.

Alex
