I am hoping you can assist.
I have run SFC in repair mode a few times and a perpetual error occurs when the program tries to repair mfc80u.dll.
I have also tried your SFC fix which only finds this one error and tells me to speak to a human !!

I have attached the CBS log and SFCfix log ... if there is anything else you need please let me know.

Windows Vista 32bit SP2 ... I know it's old but it works for me !!

Many thanks

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Could you please check if Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 ATL Update kb973923 - x86 is installed on this system in the software list. (Provide a screenshot of all the C++ packages as well).

Edit: a few years ago you've posted the exact same problem: SFC reports missing files in store

Profuse apologies ... I should have remembered (and researched more deeply) that - blame it on old age !!
Looking back now, the resolution was that the hard drive may be failing and I can remember getting it tested by an IT colleague who passed it with flying colours and as the "glitch" wasn't causing any problems on the machine (and SFC wasn't run again) the whole episode was forgotten in the mists of Covid.
It was only after a problem the other day that SFC was rerun to hopefully fix the issue - it did - and the .dll hash mismatch was there once again ... it probably never went away.

So, once again my apologies and I have attached the list of Microsoft programs you have requested.
PLEASE do not waste too much of your valuable time on this matter considering the machine is running pretty well 100% OK.
It would just be interesting to know why ?

Kind regards

Hi,

There is no need to apologize, could you please perform the following steps to provide a copy of mfc80u.dll.

Download
56f31e53c97da-SFCFix.PNG
SFCFix and save it to your desktop.

Start SFCFix to collect the problematic system file.
  • Download the attachment SFCFixScript.txt and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFixScript.txt file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called File.zip.
  • Attach this file as attachment to your next reply.

Many thanks for your reply and instructions.
I have attached zip file as requested.

I've checked and old system here and found a good copy of this file, so hopefully it is the right one for the Visual C++ 2005 package.

Step 1.
Warning: This fix was written specifically for this system. Do not run this fix on another system.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2. Run the System File Checker and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
Code:
SFC /Scannow

GENIUS .... I have had a sneek peek at the CBS log and apart from the new scan appending to the end of yesterdays, it looks like the mfc80u.dll mismatch has been fixed.
I have attached a copy of the CBS log anyway for your expert eye.
As an aside the imageres repair is because I have a "logonstudio" custom screen.
Just post a quick "qll OK2 message if you concur with my findings.
Many thanks again for your patience.

Kind regards

Yeah, the hash mismatch for mfc80u.dll has been fixed it seems.

I noticed the "imageres.dll" was repaired again, but we can ignore this because it is a part of a custom Vista logon background tweak. If everything is working fine we could mark this thread as solved, it was a long time ago I have used (and or fixed) a system with Windows Vista... ;)

All is fine, I rebooted and reselected my vista logon background (as usual).
I guess I should have upgraded years ago but Vista has always been a good friend and as the saying goes ... if it aint broke .......
Once again my sincere thanks for your patience and I hope you enjoyed "going back in time" !!! Please mark this as closed.

P.S. Have been trying to leave a wee donation but the "donate" screen hangs !! I'll try again by logging in via the mobile (a bit more up to date !)

You're welcome. Glad I could help to resolve this issue...

The donate screen opens without any problems here, perhaps the PayPal script is blocked by some reason on your system?
