"sfc /scannow windows resource protection could not start the repair service"

After a antivirus scan where my laptop ran out of power It has all sort of errors.
No system restore, no sound, half the control panel is missing, a lot of file associations errors,, the list is long..:huh:

One of the big errors is that I can't run sfc /scannow, I'm getting a

"windows resource protection could not start the repair service"

I already did a chkdsk /r with no errors.

did a cclean, malware, antivirus and fixed the issues.

But still no luck on the sfc /scannow
I restarte the trustedinstaller,,still no luck on the SFC.

I have read through this forum, and tried different ideas, but nothing is working.

So any help would be appreciated thanks :)

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

Depending on the OS you are running will depend on which instructions to follow.

Windows 7

Export CBS folder

  1. Click the Start button
    StartButton_16x16.gif
    then click Computer.
  2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
  3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
  4. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
  5. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
  6. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  7. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.
  8. Attach this to your next post please.

Windows 8

I'm really sorry, for some reason or another I can't attach a file:huh:, my computer is really acting up.
I hope it's ok that i copy past the file in here.

And sorry again I'm on a win7 x64 Lenovo 520i
And I have no cd/dvd, I'm thinking I can run the Sfc /scannow from the recovery partition that Lenovo has provided, never done that before.
Hopefully it can be done.

Please follow the instructions Here to run the System Update Readiness Tool. When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:

It look´s like that "vew" is not available in my OS language "danish" so that would not run. sorry. :(

What do i do next.?

It seem like my Windows installer is also corrupt, when I try to install new drivers I get a error messages:
The Windows installer service could not be accessed.....

I tried to restart the service but to no avail.
When I try the Windows hotfix
Fix problems that programs cannot be installed or uninstalled

I get a error 80040154.

My computer is really xxxx up. :(

Go to your desktop and launch MiniToolBox.exe - > Select the following options:
  • List event logs

Press Go

Once finished a notepad file called Result.txt will open. Please post the contents back into this thread.

I thought i had fix the vew error by change the locale language through the regedit, from danish to english.
I dont have access to all my control panel, so i had to cheat and do it through the regedit.

Changing Windows 7 system locale for non-Unicode programs - Adrian K's vBlog

But now i get a run-time error "-2147221020" error.

Have been looking through the event viewer,, it more or less one big error.

Hello again,

What antivirus did you use for initial scan? The one that froze your computer? If you are able to get the quarantine logs from the antivirus scan that would be great, if not I can post instructions for them :).

Sorry for the hold up, I'm currently on xmas vacation where my laptop can't access the internet,,(another one to the list :( ) so I'm borrowing a pc with working internet connection.

I was using Panda, but deleted it via CClean after this whole mess started.
I tried to look for the log files but could not find any.

Any other way I can help you,,thanks. :)

Are you still getting the same error message when trying to run SFC /SCANNOW?

If so please post the following report:
Please download OTL (by OldTimer) from the link below and save it to your Desktop.


  1. Disable all anti-virus and anti-malware software to prevent them inhibiting OTL in any way. If you are unsure how to do this, see THIS.
  2. Double-click OTL.exe to run it.
  3. Set every option to None -> Except for Services please set Services to All
  4. Click Run Scan to start OTL.
  5. When OTL finishes scanning, OTL.txt will open.
  6. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this logs into your next post please.

Sorry, I still can't run SFC /scannow
And when I run OTL I get a
Exception EOleSysError in module OTL.exe 000584A5. class not registered

All my antivirus and malware a disable.

  1. Click on the
    Win7Orb_zps4dae3b32.jpg
    button. Inside the search box type in CMD
  2. Right click on CMD => Choose Run as Administrator
  3. Inside the Command Prompt windows copy and paste the following commands
    net start TrustedInstaller
  4. Do you get any errors here?
  5. Please now run the following commands:
    SC QUERYEX TrustedInstaller >res&& sc qc TrustedInstaller >>res && notepad res
    reg query "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TrustedInstaller" /s > 0 & notepad 0
  6. Please post the contents of the two notepad files back into this thread

Now that the service is running can you please try SFC /SCANNOW again?

If it fails please upload a new cbs log

1. Press the Windows Key+R to bring up the run box.
2. Type services.msc and press Enter.
3. Double click on Windows Modules Installer.
4. Change the Startup type to Manual.
5. Click OK.
6. Reboot.
7. Try running SFC again and let me know if it works.
