SFC /scannow error "Cannot repair member file [l:9]'MSDTC.LOG' of Microsoft-Windows"

Hello,

Been recently tackling various BSOD issues and upon further investigation noticed this corruption error on System File Checker:

"Cannot repair member file [l:9]'MSDTC.LOG' of Microsoft-Windows"

Ran DISM Restorehealth but although received 100% verification was unsuccessful, and the same error recurred when checking the SFC scan.

Attempted SFCFix.exe, but received the following error:

SFCFix version 3.0.0.0 by niemiro.
Start time: 2016-12-22 20:48:41.353
Microsoft Windows 10 Build 14393 - amd64

Then attempted superimposing the SFCFix.Zip file on SFCFix.exe and received the following notification:

I attached the CBS log file to this post (i.e., CBS).

I then again ran the SFCFix.Zip on SFCFix.Exe and received the following text:

Then I ran a second SFC Scan but still receive the same error regarding corrupted files that could not be repaired.

I attached an updated CBS log file (i.e., CBS1).

I then performed a dism restorehealth - with 100% restore operation completed successfully.

Then another SFC scan and the same message recurred (i.e., corrupt files and unable to fix some of them).

SFCZip on SFCFix.exe led to the following message:

Not sure what my next step should be at this time.

Please advise.

Re: SFC /scannow error "Cannot repair member file [l:9]'MSDTC.LOG' of Microsoft-Windo

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. You were trying to replace a file on your Windows 10 machine with a file from Windows 7 which is why your attempts didn't work. Please do the following and then try SFC again.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Re: SFC /scannow error "Cannot repair member file [l:9]'MSDTC.LOG' of Microsoft-Windo

Hello and thank you for replying.

What file did I have that was Windows 7 and not Windows 10?

So here is the log which was produced after again employing SFCFix:

Reattempted SFC and received notification of Verification 100% complete and that Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Thank you for helping me with that.

If you can advise me what Windows 7 file I utilized incorrectly would be much appreciated.

Have a good night.

Re: SFC /scannow error "Cannot repair member file [l:9]'MSDTC.LOG' of Microsoft-Windo

I'm not sure where you got your SFCFix.zip previously but you can see from the resulting log that it was for Windows 7.

Code:
SFCFix version 3.0.0.0 by niemiro.
 Start time: 2016-12-22 21:43:15.776
 Microsoft Windows 10 Build 14393 - amd64
Using .zip script file at C:\Users\chickensoup\Desktop\SFCFix.zip [1]

 PowerCopy::
Successfully took permissions for file or folder C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-com-dtc-runtime_31bf3856ad364e35_[COLOR=#FF0000]6.1.7600.16385[/COLOR]_none_7547f48c79b40229\MSDTC.LOG

Re: SFC /scannow error "Cannot repair member file [l:9]'MSDTC.LOG' of Microsoft-Windo

OK I understand now........

Much appreciated.

Do you have any clue what may have triggered the issue with the MSDTC.LOG?

Re: SFC /scannow error "Cannot repair member file [l:9]'MSDTC.LOG' of Microsoft-Windo

I don't but can tell you that it is a very common issue. Take care.
