Hey guys,

We've tried using SFCFix and stepped through the process as per the forums however we're not having any luck. The tool basically crashes on us instantly.

SFCFix version 3.0.2.1 by niemiro.
Start time: 2019-08-22 09:22:19.132
Microsoft Windows Server 10 Build 14393 - amd64
Not using a script file.

SFCFix version 3.0.2.1 by niemiro has encountered an unhandled exception.
Currently storing 0 datablocks.

We've updated this server and rebooted last night as I saw something on this forum about some issues with Windows Defender updates. Our symptoms are the exact same as this forum post: Windows Server 2012 R2 Fails Updates, SFC, SFCFix and DISM

Our CBS.log is attached.

Hello and welcome!

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Note: If SFCFix still crashes, please right-click it, select Properties and tick the unblock box in the right bottom corner of the dialog. Confirm by clicking on OK and then retry SFCFix. :-)

FYI, appears the SFC scan went through okay finding no issues.

"Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."

I am however a tad skeptical still. Also, the cbs.txt is too large to upload. How do you want me to send it over? Again, thank you for your help.

Not really at the moment! Would it be handy for me to do a DISM repair on this host or is it not really required? I'm just curious how this actually worked thats all :D

Not necessary at this point. You ran SFC Scan. It identified a minor corruption (a shortcut), I provided a clean copy of the file and had you ran SFC again to confirm all is well. :-)
