 Hello, I am new to the forum, trying to figure out a corrupted file I found using SFC /scannow. I tried the SFCFix, and got a message that the source file could not be located. Then, the text file looked "clean" so not sure what that means.

Using Win10 on HP with Corei7 processor and big hard drive and lots of memory. I've attached the text files and CBS folder zip. Any suggestions?

Sir: Thank you for the reply. I did review the suggested link, but noted the advice/instruction was specific to a computer with NVIDIA products installed; "...[is] caused by the NVIDIA driver installer that overwrites the opencl.dll from Windows with it's own." I do not have NVIDIA products on my computer, so not sure how a NVDIA driver would be involved. Moreover, the instruction specifically said not to use it because it was specific to the computer and software at issue for which the fix was originally proposed. I am uncertain how to interpret the words any other way than the plain language of the poster, (Mr/Ms. Aura). If I can indeed use the instructions/process for repairing my evidently corrupted opencl.dll file, I need some clarification. Have I missed something?

Interesting. OK, I'll provide you a fix to resolve this. Please do the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Step#2 - SFC Scan
1. Right-click on the Start
w8start.png
button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
sfc /scannow

3. Once it finishes, copy and paste the following into the command-prompt window and press Enter.
copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"

4. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Right-click on this file and choose Send To...Compressed (zipped folder). Please upload this zipped file CBS.zip to this thread

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

2. CBS.txt

Sir: Thank you for the details. I see from the instructions, that step 4 calls for the CBS.zip file, while the listed items for the next post calls for the CBS.txt file. I think they are the same, one zipped and one not, but I will attache the CBS.zip file because the .txt file is too big and I don't know how to use the suggested means for uploading very large files.

You are correct about CBS.zip. Sorry about the confusion. It doesn't look like you followed Step#1 correctly. You will need to repeat both steps. Ensure that you drag and drop the attached SFCFix.zip over the top of SFCFix.exe and then let go of the mouse.

Good morning Mr. Drab, thank you for helping me with this. Notably, I had made an error in downloading the SFCFix.zip file, somehow turning it into a HTML file instead of the proper .zip. (Although SFCFix.exe did execute the script, the result was apparently misleading). I followed the directions, (this time correctly, I hope) and am posting the files requested attached to this reply. The result from the SFC.txt appears markedly different from the first one, now reporting some ownerships and permissions actions. I'm guessing there was a corrupt version of the OpenCL.dll file somewhere that needed to be replaced, and somehow the .zip or the .exe files contained a known good copy. In any case, the SFC /Scannow results were "clean" in the sense that no corruptions detected or fixes applied. That seems like progress to me; perhaps conclusive in so far as this problem is concerned, but you will be able to determine if that's correct or not.
