I have a windows 7 x64 machine.

sfc /scannow was run and the cbs.log file was reviewed.

per the info on this site by “Go The Power”
The Tech Cookbook – Windows 7 update (KB3022345) causing corrupt files

it appears the machine, at a minimum, has the corruptions described on the web site.

However, possibly, there are numerous other problems noted in the file.

Since I do not have experience in reading the cbs.log file, I am not sure if the other items noted are errors, warnings, or just notes of interest.

per the notes on Go The Power's web site, it indicates to download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) & the approporiate bitness of sfcfix.zip.

According to the Sysnative forum web site "windows update" category posting (by niemiro) instructions located here:

https://www.sysnative.com/forums/windows-update/4736-windows-update-forum-posting-instructions.html

this posting indicates that users who experience SFC errors should start resolving the problems by running SFCFix.exe

So this leaves a couple of questions....

if there are several problems shown in the CBS.log file, what should be done first.... just SFCFix.exe OR SFCFix.exe with SFCFix.zip

if I have incorrectly diagnosed one of the problems and it is NOT the one outlined in Go The Power's web site, can damage to the machine happen if SFCFIX.exe & SFCFix.zip are run anyway?

can someone with experience take a look at the CBS.log file from this computer & verify if there is more than one problem that needs to be fixed?

I would appreciate some insight into what the information in the cbs.log file is indicating...

my CBS.log ZIP file is 7.31MB which exceeds the forum 7.15MB attachment limit.

The CBS.log file can be downloaded from a public Microsoft onedrive folder here:

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

Can you please run SFCFix by double clicking on SFCFix? Once done please post the contents of SFCFix.txt back into this thread.

thanks for the replay & guidance.

I have downloaded and run SFCfix.exe (by niemiro).

the SFCfix.txt file that niemiro's software creates is attached.

I have NOT re-run sfc /scannow.

will wait for further instructions.

per your request, a fresh cbs.txt (log) file has been generated using sfc /scannow.

still appears to be an awful amount of activity being performed in the file; however, the scan results reported:
"Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations"...

the file size exceeds what the forum will allow as an attachment so it has been placed on a shared onedrive account here:

Haven't heard back, so I executed SFC /SCANNOW a 2nd time.

this time the results indicated unrepairable errors:

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.
Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

I have posted a copy of the latest CBS.log file in a onedrive folder... there are now qty 2 CBS.LOG files, date-stamped in the filename:

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

 1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
 2. Download SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
 3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
 4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
 5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
 6. SFCFix will now process the script.
 7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
 8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

thanks for the help

this seems to be a situation of fix, check, checks o.k. run a second check and then errors appear.

once again, I ran SFC /SCANNOW and the system reported the following:

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

I have again, uploaded the dated cbs.txt file to a shared onedrive account here:

any idea as to the reason the system finds new errors?

thanks for the help.
