Computer Problems: Need Help Window 8.1
Hi I have an HP laptop and have been experiencing problems: IE not opening, Computer freezing lagging etc....Ran Complete Virus scan using Norton 360 and then separately DL Avast and ran another virus scan and no issues noted. Avast is no longer installed. Also ran Malwarebytes and fixed problems. Computer still having problems. Ran SFCfix by Neimero and here are the results:

FYI: I don't have backup disc. Well I lost the first of 4 recovery disc. Please advise! Thank you in advance!

Re: SFC Corruptions What Next?? Windows 8.1 (Update)

Per Patrick's advice, I DL and ran the BSOD Dump + System File Collection App and attached the results. Also I tried to run the Perfmon System Health report and came up with this error.

Error:
An error occured while attempting to generate the report.

The system cannot find the path specified

Re: SFC Corruptions What Next?? Windows 8.1 (Update)

I just want to clarify that my problem started with not being able to open Internet Explorer and since I use MSN premuim and it piggy backs off IE, I cant use that software also. Again my computer lags and programs freeze. I still can't open Internet explorer.

On a Norton scan I did, it came back bad plugin and had the file named MSH.tml.dll

Re: SFC Corruptions What Next?? Windows 8.1 (Update)

I tried to run Perfmon scan again and this time came up like it was going to scan and then this new error report came up in a text file:

An error occured while attempting to generate the report.

The operator or administrator has refused the request.

Permon issue is known, don't worry. It's not all that relevant to your problems anyway.

Somebody will be with you to assist you in your SFC problems when they get a chance.

Hello Retta :)

This should repair those corrupt files detected by SFCFix:

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

SFC /SCANNOW
  1. Right click on the
    aa922834-ed43-40f1-8830-d5507badb56c_39.jpg
    button
  2. Click on Command prompt (Admin) => Press Yes on the prompt
  3. Inside the Command Prompt windows copy and paste the following command SFC /SCANNOW
  4. Please wait for this to Finish before continuing with rest of the steps.
Convert CBS.log to CBS.txt
  1. Right click on the
    aa922834-ed43-40f1-8830-d5507badb56c_39.jpg
    button
  2. Click on Run => Inside the run box copy and paste the following command:
    Code:
    cmd /c copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  3. Press Enter
  4. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt, please rename this file to CBS_{Insert forum username here}_{insert todays Date here}.txt For example "CBS_Go The Power_1803.txt"
  5. Please upload CBS_{Username}_{Date}.txt to this thread.
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to you next post please upload via Dropbox or One Drive

Hi Go The Power, Sorry for the delay in responding. I just wanted to update you and upload the documents you requested. I decided to do a System Refresh and this seemed to fix some of my problems although it reset my computer to Windows 8. I'm not sure I want to upgrade to Windows 8.1 right now because my computer still does not feel fully back to normal. Programs become unresponsive and it still seems sluggish. Internet Explorer is working but again web pages are slow to load. This was not a problem prior to all these issues.....

Hi, just curious if you've looked at the data. The reason I refreshed my system was because I could not open any browsers to connect to the internet. Right now, pages and apps are slow to respond and all browsers are slow. For example, if I click on an app on my desktop, it takes up to 5 minutes to open and often times freezes when it does open. I tried to DL Windows 8.1 but an error popped up that I need to update, however Windows update is not working and will not DL updates. It says I have 100 updates to install. It installed a few updates after I refreshed my system but has not since. That's been a few days ago. My antivirus also came back with a message about updates. I tried the Microsoft window fix and it said it fixed the problem but after a restart and trying to update again, it just hangs at 0%. Thank you for your support.
