Hello, I've run sfc /scannow and chkdsk several times because of some random BSOD events. chkdsk has done several things (e.g. recovered orphaned files) and is frequently running automatically when I need to reboot even if I don't schedule it. sfc has repaired some files in some of the previous runs, but the last few times it keeps reporting a problem that can't be repaired with a couple of files. I'm having trouble attaching the CBS log as instructed, so I will be using the large file uploader shortly. The following are the contents of the SFCFix log:

Hello and welcome

Due to the precise nature of your corruption, you will receive help from a user named CKing123. He's one of our senior trainees here who's in his final phrase of his studies and needs to gain some real world experience in specific areas of Windows Update. This means that he'll be assisting you, but that I will first need to double check and approve his fixes before he posts them to you. If anything this is a good thing for you because it means that you've got at least two of us watching over your thread, but it will unfortunately add a slight delay between each reply. I hope that you understand and can accept the need for us to train up new members in this way in order to carry on doing what we do here, however, if for any reason you object to this setup, I will happily take on your thread myself.

Thank you very much for your understanding. We'll be with you very shortly.

That is fine with me. I understand the need for training. I just need some help.

By the way, since my initial post I've also gotten a BSOD while Internet browsing. I did not get to write down the full details of the message but I do recall it saying something about "NETIO.SYS".

Was the upload of my CBS.log received? It was too big to attach and even though I used your large file uploader, I don't see that it got attached to my thread.

Hello Klepton and :welcome: to Sysnative ! We will run a fix, and then a new SFC scan with its CBS log

[COLOR=9000]SFCFix Fix[/COLOR]
This fix is very specific for Klepton's computer. Trying this fix on your own computer might damage your computer. If you are after assistance, create a new thread, and you will be assisted shortly.

Download SFCFix (by niemiro) and move the executable on your Desktop
Download the attached View attachment SFCFix.zip and move the archive to your Desktop
Note: Make sure that the file is named SFCFix.zip, do not rename it.
Save any work you have open, and close every programs
Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it
mMabJGT.gif
SFCFix will launch, let it complete
Once done, a file will appear on your Desktop, called SFCFix.txt
Open the file, then copy and paste its content in your next reply

Now we will run a SFC scan

SFC Scan
1. Click on :startorb: and type Command Prompt. Right-click on Command Prompt and click Run as Administrator
2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
Code:
sfc /scannow
3. Once it finishes, copy and paste the following into the command-prompt window and press Enter.
Code:
copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
4. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Right-click on this file and choose Send To...Compressed (zipped folder). Please upload this zipped file CBS.zip to this thread
Please Note
:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Hello Klepton! From the amount of files that were corrupted that SFC fixed (and there still are a few files that SFC couldn't repair), it seems your disk may be failing. Therefore, BACKUP all your personal data (like document, photos, etc) to another media

After you have backed up your data, we will use SeaTools for Windows to see if your hard disk is really failing:

Download SeaTools here
Install it
Since you are using a laptop, plug it in
Now, open SeaTools
Read the agreement, and click I agree if you agree
To find your main drive, check mark one of the drives that you want to check, and click on Basic Tests > Drive Information

Use the Drive Capacity to find if the current disk is your bootable disk

Now click Close, and go back to Basic Tests

Do Short Generic Test and Long Generic Test
(It could take a lot of time, so I suggest that you run the Long Generic Test overnight)

If either of these tests fail, let us know (it will mean that your hard disk is failing)

This is why you should use SeaTools to check your disk if it is failing.

Ok, I was finally able to backup all my personal data. I then downloaded and installed SeaTools. I ran every Basic Test on the disk drive (S.M.A.R.T Check, Short Drive Self Test, Short Generic and Long Generic) and it PASSed all of them. What next?

By the way, I've been getting several BSOD ocurrences lately. Yesterday alone, I got three of them. One while PC was idling, and other two while surfing the net. I took pictures of the screen info if you need them.
Additionally, I still have a few Windows Updates that fail installation.

I forgot to mention previously that after I ran sfc /scannow per your instructions on 02-16-2016, 08:08 PM, the command prompt stated something about rebooting to complete some repairs. I rebooted and took pictures of the screen while it "repaired" things. Let me know if you need them so I can upload them as well.

Yes, please upload those pictures.

The computer is frequently becoming unresponsive to the point where nothing works and I have to force shut it off by holding the Power button until it turns off. Most of the times it happens a while after I start the Chrome browser and "Restore" the previous pages so that I can easily come back to this thread.

Ok, my BSOD issues have been fixed and my system is now stable.

However, I've rebooted 3 times, each time waiting for the system to automatically detect the Windows updates and give me the option to "Install updates then shutdown computer" when clicking on the Start->Shut down button.
Each time I shut down it tried to install the updates before shutting down. When booting back up, the same updates would appear after some time.
Checking the update history, I see that the updates failed to get installed during each shut down.

The 4th time I booted up, I didn't wait for the system to automatically detect the updates. Instead, I manually started Windows Update and selected to install the updates without shutting down.
Unfortunately, the updates once again failed.
What now?

Great to hear Klepton! Could you include the list of updates that were failing in your next reply?

We will run a fresh SFC scan to get a list of corruptions:

SFC Scan
1. Click on :startorb: and type cmd. When Command Prompt appears, right-click on it, and click Run as Administrator

Our apologies. I've been working with CKing123 behind the scenes on this almost on a daily basis. As we are training it sometimes takes longer but there is no excuse for us not updating you and letting you know that we were working on it. We'll be with you very soon.

Hello Klepton. Sorry for the delay. We have been working on a way to archive your log because it was huge (1.3 GB in size), and Windows should have automatically archive the logs to prevent CBS.log from becoming big, but with so many errors being written it couldn't, and it took longer because some of my fixes were wrong. So we have a bat file that will fix it. First, we will run the SFCFix script that should fix the files that SFC marked as corrupt and then we will run the bat file (which, after archiving the CBS log, will automatically run the SFC scan and copy the CBS log afterwards)[/COLOR]

This fix is very specific for Klepton's computer. Trying this fix on your own computer might damage your computer. If you are after assistance, create a new thread, and you will be assisted shortly.

Download SFCFix (by niemiro) and move the executable on your Desktop. If you have kept this from previous fixes, use that instead.

After it is done, we will be running a bat file
[COLOR=9000]BAT FILE[/COLOR]
Download View attachment fix.bat

Move it to the Desktop
Right-click > Run as Administrator
After it is done, it will automatically open fix.txt on your Desktop, so copy and paste it in your next reply, and also attach the CBS log that it creates on the Desktop (or if it is already there, it replaces it)
