Please help, my windows update is corrupted, sfc /scannow does not help "found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them."

dism [...] /restorehealth complains about missing sources, and SFCfix simply crashes when I start it. Here's the CBS.log from my 2016-server

Hello jitbit,

Welcome to Sysnative and the Windows Update section.

I have had a look at your CBS log and I think I can see what one of the problems is. Some of the files on your system seem to be failing because of having the wrong hash key. For example:
Code:
2021-10-03 08:09:02, Info CSI 000075c7 Hashes for file member \SystemRoot\WinSxS\amd64_windows-defender-management-powershell_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.14393.0_none_1137c685b804c9a3\Defender.psd1 do not match actual file [l:13]'Defender.psd1' :
  Found: {l:32 sJYRL7pOOrzeh61t/IQ8fi10+0aRJaAEBOEvvl8FTss=} Expected: {l:32 SsIaLRmRVHiEjS8RMoQAygj7Gsj8861DFPUlawqGoH0=}

To fix this please do the following:

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

Step 1:
  1. If needed, download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Attach this file into your next post for me to check.

Step 2:
Run SFC /scannow (and reboot, if asked) then attach the latest CBS log

Thanks @philc43 !!! I waited for the weekend to try your fix b/c it's a production server and happy to say it worked!! After running your script, the dism .... /restorehealth worked perfectly, and further sfc too.

Will try to re-apply the updates now. Thanks, really appreciate.

OK, let me know if the needed updates install. If not post the new CBS.log.

Will do!! And let me know how can I return the favor (apart form donating which I just did)

Many thanks for your donation, it is really appreciated by us all at Sysnative.

Unfortunately, the Windows Update KB5006669 still fails to install. Tried both the auto-update and downloading it directly from the update catalog, also tried deleting/renaming the SoftwareDistribution folder - didn't work. It looks like it installs it, then after a restart we get "We couldn't complete the updates. Undoing changes"

Event lot message: Package KB5006669 failed to be changed to the Installed state. Status: 0x80070003.

Well, at least the sfc/dism tools now return clean, so we're good on that.

UPDATE: windows update troubleshooter does complain about "Windows Update database is corrupted" but unable to fix it, though

I think it would be worth copying the latest CBS folder to your desktop, zipping it up and posting a link to it via OneDrive or any another sharing site you use (I suggest this because the full folder is usually too big to upload here). There may be entries that might explain the behaviour even though they are not identified as errors.
